LONDON (JTA) — Michael
Cliffe, a Jewish member of Par-
liament and an active leader of
British Jewry, died here Monday
at the age of 60.
Born in Sheffield. Mr. Cliffe was
Mayor of Finsbury in 1956 and
1957 and he was elected as a
Labour member of Parliament in
1958.
He was a leading member of the
delegation which made a pilgrim-
age to Poland in 1961 to attend
ceremonies commemorating the
anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising.

Abraham Liebovitz Dies;
Was NY Jewish Leader

NEW YORK (JTA) — Funeral
services for Abraham L. Liebovitz,
prominent Jewish community
leader and philanthropist, were
held at the Society for the Ad-
vancement of Judaism.
Mr. Liebovitz had a leading role
in fund-raising drives for Israel.
He served as national treasurer of
the Jewish National Fund and was
active in the United Jewish Ap-
peal of Greater New York. He was
also one of the founders and a
trustee of the Society for the Ad-
vancement of Judaism. -

Memorial Held in London
for JTA Co-Founder

LONDON (JTA) — A memorial
meeting was held here for Meir
Grossman, veteran Zionist, jour-
nalist and one of the founders of
the Jewish Telegraphic Agency,
who died at the end of June at
the age of 76.
The meeting was sponsored by
the London Bureau of the Jewish
Agency, the Zionist Historical
Committee, the Association of
Jewish Writers and Journalists in
Britain and the Federation of Jew-
ish Relief Organizations. Speakers
included S. J. Goldsmith, who
spoke on behalf of the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency; S. J. Haren-
dorf, representing British Jewish
journalists and writers; Joseph
Leftwich, who spoke for the Fed-
eration of Jewish Relief Organi-
zations, and others.
