REASON WHY The Crossroads
restaurant on West Seven Mile Rd.
near Livernois is called Detroit's
most unusual spot is quite appar-
ent . . . no liquor and nightly en-
tertainment you wouldn't normally
see elsewhere . . . As example is
the three-day limited engagement,

Aug 14 thru Aug. 16 of The Spurr-
lows, with Thurlow Spurr . . . It's
a choral and orchestral group ala
Fred Warring, made up of 25 men
and women, which gives you an
idea of the size of the stage . . .
We had lunch at The Crossroads
last week and thoroughly enjoyed
the good food and excellent service
. . . The beautiful surroundings
certainly place it among the finest
in Detroit, if not the mid-west .. .
P.S. Contrary to idle talk, you can
smoke at The Crossroads!
ERRATA .. . Recent recipe for
pickled fish given by Sylvia "Mom"
Rosenberg to son Al over the
phone from New York where she
was soon to leave for Israel, called
for lemon gelatin . . . "Morn" Ros-
enberg does not use gelatin . . .
SOUND PECULIAR that "Cloud
7," formerly Bobo's on W. 7 Mile
Rd., should be accepting confeder-
ate money? . . . Well, reason is not
as gimmicky as you may think .. .
One of the owners, Frank Mahler,
is an avid numismatist (coin col-
lector) . . . Makes no difference
whether a confederate dollar or
100 dollars, it still pays for the
steak . . . But please don't ask
for any change!
MURV SHINER at The Living
End is good . . . real good . . . and
his repertoire of folk ballads and
blues is quite extensive . . . Many
folk singers continue at the same
monotonous pace, but Mury has
the ear pleasing knock of continu-
ally changing tempos, rhythms and
types of songs . . . He is a definite
crowd pleaser ... Mary and Tony
Pognanski of the good old former
Russian Bear eatery, own the
Living End, located on John C.
Lodge at Seward . . . Mary and
Tony are indications of the calibre
of place it is, since their reputa-
tion in Detroit is among the best
. . . We certainly recommend The
Living End.
RAY WISE, bossman at The
Apartment dining and drinking
emporium on W. McNichols, owns
a rare distinction • . . His is one
of the few spots in town where
business seldom lets up—always
seems to be something going on.
. . . Good reason is the unbeatable
combination of good food, good
service and congenial atmosphere.
ROTUNDA COUNTRY INN, 3230
Pine Lake Drive, Orchard Lake,
is having a one-man show of paint-
ings by Simon Rosen, prominent
Michigan artist, teacher and lec-
turer ... The paintings at Rotunda
include landscapes, still life, sea-
scapes, florals and figures . . . Si-
mon has won numerous prizes for
his Impressionistic Realism . . .
While out there, say hello to own-
er Jack Simons and enjoy the won-
derfully delicious food he rightly
takes much pride in serving ... The
buffet is out of this world, by the
way . .. and in case you're inter-
ested, have him show you the
many rooms he has available for
private parties.
.
Preceded by rave notices from
Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the
new Ira Wallach comedy "The
Absence of a Cello" comes to
Northland Playhouse Aug 18-23.
Wallach pokes fun at banks, taxes,
suburban togetherness, personnel
tests, joiners and expense account
executives.
