In Image of God

By SAMUEL MILAN
"This man is not like us," some say,
"His skin is much too dark;
"So we must show what he should
know—
"His color is a mark.'

He says, "Dear Lord, repeat, we
pray,
"Your phrase, 'Let there be
light!' "
"For there are men within our ken
"Who think you said, 'Be White.' "

Says God, "You're all of mortal
clay,
"And must avoid this sin:
"Do not take pride in hue of hide,
"My image has no skin !"
