THE HEIGHT OF exasperation
was reached last week by Mitch
Mitnick . . . All evening long, with
the newspaper strike still on, he
drove looking for a place that sold
any paper from any city . . . He
finally found a store open on Sec-
ond Blvd., brought out his favorite,
a New York Times, and tenderly
snuggled it in his arms as he head-
ed for home . . Reaching his
abode and settling down for some
relaxing reading, Mitch thought he
had written the paper—it seemed
so familiar . . . The date? . . .
Two weeks ago!
WHILE DOING A club date re-
cently, pantomimist Billy (Felsen-
feld) Field couldn't understand
why the crowd was laughing so
much during a serious Al Jolson
number . . . That is, until he re-
membered forgetting to remove the
fake nose after his Jimmy Durante
routine!
VERY OFTEN in acquainting
herself with people, Janette Over-
ton Herman of the Book-Couzens
Travel Service will say either
Aloha, Salude or Konni chi wa . . .
greetings in Hawaiian, Mexican
and oriental . . . But Janette does
favor Hawaii and perhaps could
be referred to as an "adopted
daughter" of the islands."
MOE STERN, the jewelry gent,
brings back this gem of sign post-
ing by a couple of adjoining barber
shops in Miami Beach . . . One
announced, "Why Pay $1.50 for a
haircut? We'll do the job for fifty
cents less!" . . . Two hours later,
the other hung out this sign twice
as big, "We guarantee to repair
dollar haircuts."
FOLKS UNABLE TO get away
for a vacation, counsels Sid Silver-
man of Practical Homes, can get
the same feeling by tipping every
third person they meet.
AFTER A SUCCESSFUL session
of 35 miles of canoeing down the
swift Pine River near Cadillac,
Mich., ad men Hal Silk and Stuart
Patt and Hal's cousins, Harold and
Ken Silk, beached their canoes .. .
They then stripped off their suits
for a short swim in the raw at a
desolate spot seemingly devoid of
all other human life . . . After
several minutes of swimming, the
fellows heard a car stop almost at
the spot where they had left their
canoes and suits .. . What started
out as a short dip on a very hot
day turned out to be a long, tiring
experience trapped in the water!
