Great Britain Pledges Action Against Job Discrimination
LONDON (JTA)—A debate on
discriminatory. practices in em-
ployment in Britain took place in
the House of Commons Monday. It
was opened by Sir Barnett Janner
who asked Minister of Labor J. B.
Godber whether or not he was in-
tending to instruct employment
exchanges to discontinue record,

ing the requests of employers who
discriminate against candidates on
the basis of religion, race or color.
"The Jewish problem exists
everywhere, where there are Jews
Danny Raskin,' s
-in large numbers; where there is
no Jewish problem, it is imported
by wandering JeWs."
LISTENING
Labor Minister Godber replied
that while his local offices register
requests containing discriminatory
stipulations, several methods have
been adopted to discourage em-
ployers from continuing their pol-
ices of discrimination. The Minis-
ter promised to withhold the serv-
ices of the labor exchanges to em-
ployers who resist all efforts to
make them alter objectionable hir-
ing practices. Sir Barnett Janner's
anti-discrimination views were
supported by several Laborite
members in the Parliament.

Past . . . and Prologue
Two visitors to Washington,
D.C. were riding down Consti-
tution Avenue in a taxi when
they passed the National
Archives Building.
Seeing an inscription, "What
Is Past Is Prologue," written
across the base of a statue in
front of the building, one of
the passengers asked the cab
driver what it meant.
"That," the cabbie said,
"Means 'Brother, you ain't seen
nothin' yet'."
