Jacob Savin is a layman. He is
a manufacturer of corrugated box-
es and operates the Michigan Box
Co. on West Jefferson Ave. But
he also is a student of Jewish
lore.
He is a Zionist and during the
trying era when the movement
was challenged by Jewry's enemies
he wrote a small book which he
entitled "The Only Answer," de-
fending the Jewish nationalist
cause.
His interest in Jewish traditions
is expressed in a new book, "Con-
cepts of Judaism," published by
Exposition Press (383 Park Ave.,
N.Y.). Subtitled "A Study of the
Variety of Interpretations," Savin
deals with many Jewish subjects
which he defines in a fashion to
make them understandable by all.
An introduction to the book
written by Dr. Leon Fram com-
mends the author for his origin-
ality. He states that Savin "knows
precisely what it is that the lay-
man wants to know about con-
flcting interpretations of Juda-
ism."
Savin's 140-page book contains
subjects relating to Orthodoxy,

HAMBURGER PATTIES WITH
PINEAPPLE IN BUNS
lb, ground tenderloin or lean chuck
4 slices canned pineapple
lz cup pineapple syrup
cup catsup
4 hamburger buns, sliced in half
crosswise
cup dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons Worchestershire sauce
chicken fat
Form the meat into 4 large patties
about 1,-inch thick. Drain the pine-
apple slices thoroughly. Combine the
pineapple syrup, catsup, sugar, and
Worchestershire sauce in a small
saucepan, bring to a boil, then keep
hot. Brush the patties and pineapple
sdices generously on both sides with
the sauce. Cook the patties and pine-
apple slices, either by broiling, or by
sauteeing in 2 tablespoons of chicken
fat, until the meat is medium-well-
done, and the pineapple slices are
browned. Indoors this should take
about 4 minutes on each side over
medium-high heat. For an outdoor
grille no time can be given. Meanwhile,
spread the buns with chicken fat and
heat. When the meat is ready, place a
patty in each bun, top with a pine-
apple slice, and spoon additional sauce
over all. Cover with the tops of the
buns. This amount serves 4. For a
larger group increase as needed.

HAMBURGER PATTIE ROYALE
lb. ground tenderloin or lean chuck
1 medium onion, minced
teaspoon ground ginger.
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
1/16 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vs teaspoon pepper
Combine all ingredients lightly but
thoroughly and form into 4 patties,
about inches in thickness. Grill or
pan-broil to the desired degree of
doneness. Indoors, over medium heat.
allow about 30 minutes for medium.
For outdoor cooking no exact time can
be given. If you are familiar with your
grille allow almost as much time as you
usually do when preparing a steak of
equal thickness. The patties have such
a delicious flavor that no sauce is re-
quired. The recipe serves 4. For a
larger group, increase as needed.
