OPEN DAILY 7 a.m. to 4 a.m. Round the Clock On Weekends Bring This Ad in for a Free Cup of Get Acquainted Coffee a little bit of everything By Danny Raskin ABOUT 25 YEARS ago, many well-known and adventurous De- troiters motored the 27 miles from Detroit to the north shore of Pine Lake for a day's outing . . . To fortify themselves against the early day hazards of driving a motor car, they stopped at Ro- tund-a Inn for a tasty luncheon and dinner . . . The name Rotunda Inn is derived from the architec- ture of the original building, which was constructed in 1880 as a private home . . . Folks are in- vited to visit the first Rotunda Inn, which is now the Rotunda Lobby and is beyond the west end of the main dining room Many brides have thrown their bouquets from its balcony and ad- mired its two-story cobblestone fireplace . . . The building, which houses the main entrance to the dining room, was also a private summer home . . . In 1928 this was acquired along with the vacant property which lay between it and Rotunda Inn . . . The original early American dining room was built on this property, thus con- necting the two farm houses . • . In 1951, additions to the kitchens and a new cocktail lounge were added . . . In the spring of 1955, new additions to the dining room and kitchen were made, bringing Rotunda Inn to its present capac- ity of three private rooms, main dining room, cocktail lounge and beautiful 'Williamsburg Lounge. . . . In the spring of 1960 further structural changes . . . From the fire of two years ago have come even more striking innovations. . . . Rotunda Inn is now known as Rotunda Country Inn . . . under the new management of Jack Simons and Eugene Ketchel . . . Its specialties are lavish buffets . . . luncheons at $1.50 . . . and four-course dinners at $4.50 every evening . . . Dinners from the menu are from $2.75 . . . Rotunda Country Inn is on Pine Lake Rd. REQUESTS HAVE come in to Al Rosenberg on how to make pickled fish at home . . . Last week, the boss of the new Eight Mile Rd. catering and restaurant emporium called his mother, Syl- via, in New York, who was soon to board a plane for Israel and via the telephone she gave Al the recipe which will appear in this column next week. AL'S HOLIDAY MANOR strict- ly kosher eatery at 15325 W. Eight Mile Rd., just east of Greenfield, opened last week to a large and enthusiastic flow of diners . . . Cutting through obstacles galore, Al still opened up, amazing that it was he was able to . . . The food was very good in the usual Al Rosenberg tradition, and the service excellent . . . The phone rang constantly with folks asking if he was open yet . . . While an- swering yes, he was either writing orders for parties or bouncing around greeting people having dinner . . . During summer, the restaurant is open at 5 p.m. daily and Sunday, closed Friday and Saturday. NEW EATERY on W. 7 Mile Rd. formerly Bobo's, near Royal Thea- ter, is now called Cloud 7 . . . Owned by Frank Mahler and Hank Letourneau . . . specializing in Southern Fried Chicken and Bar- B-Q Chicken . . . with a specially prepared sauce made from an old secret recipe and brought up from the deep south.
