Israel Technical Schools
Face Need for Teachers

CORE Leader Urges Str onger Ties Between Negroes and Liberal. Jews

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel
faces "a critical need" for more
teachers in technical schools, with
thousands of such teachers to be
in demand in the next 10 years,
Kalman Aranne; minister of edu-
cation, warned here in his com-
mencement address at Boys Town,
where 17 engineering students
were graduated by the new College
for Technical Teachers.
With Israel's technical schools
showing vast increases in enroll-
ments, while industry clamors for
more skilled workers, the country
faces urgently the need for more
teachers to guide these students
and to help fill the void in skilled
labor, Aranne said.

Teachers was opened a year ago,

National CORE leader James A.
Farmer c a 11 s for continued
strengthening of the alliance be-
tween Negroes and the liberal
Jewish community of the United
States in the current issue of the
Workmen's Circle Call.
Farmer compares the silence
that greeted the historic Warsaw
ghetto uprising 20 years ago with
the majority's silence greeting the
current effort of American Ne-
groes to achieve full citizenship
and eqUal opportunities.
Farmer paid tribute to young
Jewish students who "to an aston-
ishing degree, have made the fight
of the American Negro their
fight."
Writing, however, that "In our
kind of movement, patience and
moderation are seldom virtues,"
Farmer chided those who ad-
vocated such paths by adding
that, "More often than not, they
simply i n duce complacency
among those who must act if
necessary reforms are to be
made."
Referring to friction between

fort to eliminate slum conditions."

Farmer minimizes the extent of
remarge--
anti-Semitism in the Negro com-
munity and anti-Negro feeling in
the Jewish community. He said

PEANUT BUTTER BARS (unbaked)
4 cups crisp corn flakes
1 6-oz. package chocolate bits
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar

0 11/

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cup peanut butter
Place the corn flakes in a mixing bowl
and crush slightly. Add the chocolate
bits. In a small saucepan bring the corn
syrup and dark brown sugar to a full
boil. Remove from the heat and stir in
the vanilla and peanut butter. Either
smooth or chunky peanut butter may be
used. When blended, pour this mixture
over the corn flakes and chocolate chips.
Stir until thoroughly blended. The choc-
olate will melt. Press into a greased
9x9-inch-square pan and refrigerate at
least one hour, until firm. Cut into
32 bars. Store in the refrigerator in a
covered container.

2 1/2 cups fine-grated coconut
1 cup finely ground blanched almonds
11/2 teaspoons sugar
'3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon almond extract
Use the gel just as it comes from the
package. In a mixing howl combine the
gel, 2 cups of the coconut, the almonds,
and the sugar until thoroughly blended.
Stir the condensed milk and almond
extract together, then stir into the coco-
nut mixture. Blend thoroughly and form
into 30 balls about PA inches in diam-
eter. Roll the balls in the remaining
coconut to coat evenly. Chill until firm.
Store them in an airtight container in

paper between each layer; and keep
them refrigerated until ready to serve.
