Muriel Salina Greenspon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Miss Greenspon Greenspon of 15731 Cloverlawn, as soloist and as part of a quartet, is among the favorites here this season. A graduate of the University of Michigan. where she earned her Master's degree in music in 1962, Miss Greenspon, a mezzo-soprano, was the winner in 1960 of the $2,500 Detroit Opera Grinnell Scholarship award. Miss Greenspon, who now re- sides in Ann Arbor, making her first appearance at the Stratford Festival this season, sings the role of Dame Carruthers in "The Yeomen of the Guard". Miss Greenspon has appeared with the Ann Arbor Opera Com- pany, the Chautauqua Opera As- sociation and the New York City Center Opera Company in such roles as Bertha in "The Barber of Seville", Giovanna in "Rigoletto", Suzuki in "Madame Butterfly" and Mama McCord in "Ballad of Baby Doe". She has appeared in two off- Broadway productions. "Oh Marry Me" (based on Goldsmith's "She Stoops to Conquer") and the world premiere of "The Bald Prima Donna". She has also performed in summer stock in Flint and Detroit. Miss Greenspon appeared at the Boston Arts Festival in 1961 and has made several appearances with the Detroit Symphony. Under the musical direction of Louis Applebaum, "Yeomen of the Guard" adds glory to the Stratford Festival which already is attracting guests from many American communities, in addi- tional to the Canadians who an- nually flock to the festival here. It has been reported that Detroit- ers rank among the leading sup- porters of the festival. There were scores of Detroiters at the shows last week-end and Michi- gan is second to Ontario in the number of attendees. "Richard II," "King Lear" and Moliere's "Le Bourgeois Gentil- homme" are the season's three major attractions which are draw- ing record crowds in the longest scheduled season in the festival's history.
