Company's President's Club—an elite group of top life

On two pages of solid plastic,
containing no paper whatsoever,
closely printed, Data Guide, Inc.,
154-01 Barclay Ave., Flushing,
N.Y., has issued "The History of
Judaism."
Dr. Jacob E. Neusner, who was
ordained rabbi by the Jewish
Theological Seminary but who has
turned to teaching, has held posts
at the University of Wisconsin and
Brandeis University, and now is
professor of Semitics at Dart-
mouth, Hanover, N.H., is the
author of this remarkably well
compiled account of Jewish his-
tory.
This is a highly scholarly
work. It begins with the Patri-
archs and concludes with
explanations of the various
branches of Judaism today.
It goes to the very beginning,
Creation, after explaining the con-
tents of the Bible, and elaborates

on paganism as it was opposed by
the monotheistic Jewish practices;
Israel's Covenant with God, the
eras of kings and prophets, the
age of the judges, the exile, Jews
in Babylonia.
Describing the emergence of the
Second Temple, Dr. Neusner re-
views the influencs of the Second
Jewish Commonwealth, the various
sects as well as sectarianism, the
period of the Amoraim, the codes
of Jewish law, the Kabbalah and
scores of other Jewish develop-
ments.
This plastic type of historical
bookmaking is most interesting.
Dr. Neusner has packed into his
effort thousands of years of Jew-
ish history. It is a most revealing
work by a distinguished young
scholar. The only question of
doubt that emerges is whether the
compactness of this plastic will
not deter readers. An entire book
is compressed into two pages. The
contents are wonderful. The read-
ing of it, ophthalmologically, will
be difficult.

some aren't.
