LI 1-2888 is a real treat • Visit Our New SKYLIGHT ROOM, Cocktail Lounge and Bar ONE OF THE BEST ways to pull yourself out of the summer dol- drums and pep up a flagging appe- tite is to get out to Leo Adler's Harbor Bar, where the menu is small but good, the view unsur- passed and the air-conditioning provided by the Detroit River .. . Leo bought the Harbor Bar several years ago and his wife Debbie set about refurbishing and decorating the place in a nautical theme . . . The special appeal of the Harbor Bar is in its location ... It is built on a dock which surrounds a small marina on the Detroit River at the foot of Fairview . . . Directly op- posite is the head of Belle Isle and during racing season the huge unlimited power boats make their turns at this point . . . On a hot summer night it is one of the fin- est places in the city to go for a cooling drink while the waves slap • AFTER THEATRE Snacks . . . a Delight LUNCHEON A Pleasure Magnificent Mencottrs 7113 PURITAN 2 Blocks West of Livernois Res. The harbor consists of a large covered outdoor dock, a cozy cock- tail lounge and a small tastefully appointed dining room on the sec- ond deck .. The kitchen and din- ing room are under the direction of Wyn and Harold Landis and out of their small kitchen come such wonders as the Commodore Spe- cial, a superb eight-ounce ham- burger, and cheese blintzes . . . They also serve a dilly of a tender- loin filet, chops and some tasty pancakes, eggs and assorted sand- wiches — but the specialty of the house are the cheese blintzes. THE DECORATIVE interior of Billy's Delicatessen on Livernois makes it one of the most beautiful eateries of its kind ... It is evident that • everything was done with careful planning and the ingenu- ity of owner Bernie Litt, whose fertile mind is the reason Billy's is such a well-appointed delica- tessen. EVER HAVE A THIRD de- gree . . . and we don't mean buni? .. . It's a drink with 2A English gin, 1/3 dry vermouth and 4 dashes of pernod . . . Stir well with ice and strain into glass. THE WAY THINGS are going, Marty's Delicatessen in the Green- 8 Shopping Center on Greenfield, should open on or about July 1 . . Original date of June 1 was just guesswork . . This time it Could be the real thing as Marty Horowitz brings his Broadway downtown Detroit delicatessen delicacies to the northwest. FOR AN UNUSUAL taste treat, French toast enthusiasts may take Iry Lachman's sugges- tion and try it this way next time . . . Dip the bread into egg batter as usual, then into crum- bled corn flakes, and fry as de- sired. DAVE FISHER'S Little Island Coney on W. McNichols and Mur- ray Hill, has a short menu but more than enough to thrill the gourmet or gourmand . . . Take the hamburgers for example . . . They are ground beef from a very esteemed animal . . . This beef is not hammered into a patty and flopped on a greasy grill • . Rather it is gently stirred in loose form with a secret ancient Grecian spice until it is all into thousands of crumbly little pieces of delicious- ness . . • This is spooned out onto a hot dog bun and served up to the unthinking customer . . . But the man who thinks for himself will have the cook ladle out some of the singular chili as a dressing for the hamburger . . . This same process is followed when dealing with the hot dogs . . . They are fried until golden and succulent on the griddle, topped with the chili and served piping hot to the customer . . . Many find that these tasty little devils are heightened by the addition of onions, relish, mustard or catsup . . . Dave's Little Island Coney has made a lot of people happy . . . not having to drive all the way downtown on Lafayette for the juicy gems.
