Barbara Kaufman
to Tired Dr. Weintraub by Ex-Detroiter
Joan. Silberstein
MISS BARBARA KAUFMAN
Announcement is made of the
engagement of Barbara Rochelle
Kaufman to Dr. Burton Howard
Weintraub, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Weintraub of Hartwell Ave.
The bride-elect is the daughter
of Mrs. Celia Kaufman of Monte
Vista Ave. and the late Benjamin
Kaufman.
The first edition of a new publi-
cation. "Lollipops and Tears", con-
taining selected poetry and prose
by student writers has been edited
by a former Detroiter, Joan Silber-
stein, and released through the On-
teora Central Schools Press.
Miss Silberstein, daughter of Mrs.
Ruth Silberstein, 17170 Meyers, a
sister of the late Sam Arnold, local
press agent, is responsible for the
creation of the book.
In May 1963, when she was em-
ployed as a teacher of English at
Onteora Central High School in
Boiceville, New York. Miss Silber-
stein proposed the idea of a crea-
tive writing group.
A graduate of Central High
School, Miss Silberstein attended
the University of Wisconsin and the
American Academy of Dramatic
Arts. She became interested in the
idea of an extra-curricular class in
creative writing while attending the
Novel Workshop at the New School
for Social Research. When she pro-
posed the idea to the authorities at
her teaching post it was favorably
eceived and the class was formed.
