WASHINGTON (JTA) — Presi-
dent Johnson and the State Depart-
ment were commended in the
Senate for rebuking the 13 Arab
ambassadors' public protest over
Prime Minister Eshkol's visit to
this country.
Sen. Hubert Humphrey, Minne-
sota Democrat, in his praise of the
State Department and White House
condemnation of the Arab protest,
stated: "I am pleased to note that
the President again saw fit to re-
mind the world that the United
States will fulfill its commitments,
to prevent aggression or to prevent
a change of boundaries by force
in the Middle East."
Alaskan Democrat, Sen. Ernest
Gruening, speaking on the
Senate floor, called the Arab
protest an "exhibit of complete
arrogance on the part of these
Arab embassies in trying to dic-
tate to the United States whom
the President may invite to this
country officially."
A warning against Soviet-encour-
aged Arab attacks upon Israel was
issued on the Senate floor by Sen.
Thomas Dodd, Connecticut Demo-
crat. He stated that the situation
called for a most firm U.S. reitera-
tion of its policy not to tolerate
any aggression by one Near East-
ern country against a neighbor.
He also urged U.S. warnings to
Prime Minister Khrushchev that
both the expansion of East-West
trade and the credits to the Soviet
Union "will be heavily dependent
on whether the Soviet Government
acts to encourage or to discourage
military aggression by Nasser and
other Arab expansionsits."

JERUSALEM (JTA)—The For-
eign Ministery has informed the
West German electronics firm,
Grundig, that import licenses for
all of the firm's products will be
canceled unless the company af-
firms that it has not yielded to
the Arab boycott, it was reported
here.
Grundig's Israel agent disclosed
that he was proceeding to West
Germany this week and that he
hoped to get such a declaration.
The Foreign Ministry statement
followed a report that Grundig had
notified its agents to stop all sales
to Israeli firms in response to
pressure from the Arab boycott
committee. The company had been
selling its television, radio and
other electronic products very
widely in Israel.

Soviet Radio Sends Out
Anti-U.S. Broadcasts;
Slams Eshkol Visit

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
current visit of Israel's Prime
Minister Levi Eshkol to the United
States at the invitation of Presi-
dent Johnson is being utilized by
the Soviet government for anti-
Israel propaganda beamed to Arab
countries in Arab languages over
the Soviet radio. The broadcast
also strongly attacks the U.S.
government for inviting Eshkol.
"The step on the part of the
United States government," the
Soviet broadcast declared, "has
exposed the demagogic nature of
its statements concerning the
desire for stability in the Arab
East. When defining its policy
toward Israel, the United States
is guided only by its selfish im-
perialistic interests, which have
nothing in common with the re-
storation of Arab rights which
were stolen by Israel or carrying
out United Nations resolutions in
this connection."
The broadcast went on to say
that "it would be useless for
American ruling quarters to try
to fish in troubled waters. The
peace-loving forces in the Near
East and throughout the world
will never submit to the intrigues
of those who try to exacerbate
tension in this region.

Erhard Will Miss

BONN—Chancellor Ludwig Er-
hard, who left Tuesday for a one-
week visit to Canada and the
United States, will not meet Israeli
Prime Minister Levi Eshkol in
New York, informed sources re-
ported here.
The sources said that the chan-
cellor felt there was insufficient
time for such a meeting in the
period between his arrival in New
York City and Premier Eshkol's
departure. However, the sources
insisted that the chancellor's rea-
sons could not under any circum-
stances be interpreted as a desire
to avoid meeting Eshkol. The
sources also indicated that there
were some issues between West
Germany and Israel which it would
be better "to let ripen" before
an Erhard-Eshkol meeting.
The issue of widening in-
demnification benefits to victims
of Nazism, it was reported, is
not one of the issues which
Chancellor Erhard feels falls
into that category. The chancel-
lor, on the contrary, who feels
he has a "good conscience" on
the matter, has not reached a
final decision on that question.
He reportedly holds the position
that West Germany has consistent-
ly shown its good intentions on the
indemnification questions and that
under no circumstances will the
Federal Republic "fail to pay just

Despite his views on the desir-
ability of postponing a meeting
with Eshkol, the chancellor was
reported as considering an invi-
tation to president Nasser of Egypt
