Yeshiva U. Plans New High School

Begin House Hearings
on Immigration Laws

CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENTS

WASHINGTON. (JTA) — Hear-
ings on pending immigration legis-
lation began Thursday in the House
of Representatives.
Ohio Democrat Michael Feighan
is head of the House Judiciary Im-
migraiton subcommittee and suc-
cessor to the late Rep. Francis
Walter as head of the Joint Com-
mittee on Immigration.

Dutch Jewry Thinning

Architect Samuel Juster of New York City has designed a four-
story complex for Yeshiva University's two high schools in Brooklyn
— the Yeshiva University High School for Boys and the Yeshiva
University High School for Girls — which will be built on the block-
long site now occupied by the Vitagraph Studios, Avenue M and East
14 Street in the Midwood section. Renovation and conversion of the
Vitagraph Studios facilities will get underway immediately to enable
the High School for Girls to hold fall classes at the new location.

Eye on Future Jew's Survival:

What has prevented this con-
stantly migrating people, this
veritable Wandering Jew, from
degenerating into brutalized
vagabonds, into vagrant hordes
of gypsies? The answer is at
hand. In its journey through the
desert life, for 18 centuries, the
Jewish people carried along the
Ark of the Covenant, which
breathed into its heart ideal .
aspirations, and even illuminat-

ed the badge of disgrace affixed
to its garment with an apostolic
glory. The proscribed, outlawed,
universally persecuted Jew felt
a sublime, noble pride in being
singled out to perpetuate and
to suffer for a religion which
reflects eternity, by which the
nations of the earth were grad-
ually educated to a knowledge
of God and morality, and from
which is to spring the salvation
and redemption of the world.

AMSTERDAM, (JTA) — The an-
nual report of the Permanent Com-
mittee of the Ashkenazi Congrega-
tion in Holland recommended
today the dissolution of nine of
the 54 Ashkenazi communities in
Holland because they lacked
enough Jews for a minyan.
The report said that the com-
munities now had only 16,701
members, including 10.214 in
Amsterdam, 1,722 in The Hague
and 871 in Rotterdam.

Latin Seminary Started

MEXICO CITY, (JTA) — The
Union of Rabbis of Latin America
and of Mexico announced plans
today to establish a seminary in
Israel to train rabbis, teachers and
ritual slaughterers for Latin Amer-
ican Jewries.
Rabbi A. M. Hershberg, presi-
dent of the Latin American organ-
ization, said Chief Rabbi Jacob
Fink of Argentina will be dean of
the new seminary.

It's easy to drift, but its the
man who helps others shape the
currents of life who finds real
satisfaction.
