Scores of Detroiters Will Again Make
Stratford Their Summer Rendezvous
Mrs. Benjamin Jones New President Maro-o Kahn Bride

of Federation's Women's Division
Mrs. Benjamin Jones was elected
president • of the 13,000-member
Women's Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation for a one-year
term at the Division's Annual
Meeting held Wednesday in the
Jewish Center.
Reelected as vice-president of
the Division was Mrs. Arthur H.
Rice. Others elected vice-presidents

J. Frank, MaxWell Jospey, David
J. Schachter, Nathan Schlafer and
Sidney Weisman.
Newly-elected to the board for a
three-year terms on the advisory
Herman August, Alfred L. Deutsch,
Merle Harris, Irvin Kurtz, Ben
Mossman, Leo Oroecklin and
Henry Pariser.
Mrs. Milton Doner was elected
for a two-year term.
Mrs. Harry August and Mrs.
Abraham Cooper were elected to
three-year terms on the advisory
service council of the board of di-
rectors.
Elected to one-year terms as
representatives to the Federation
Board of Governors were Mrs.
Jones and Mrs. Philip R. Marcuse,
outgoing president.
Mrs. I. Jerome Hauser, chairman
of the division's participation in
the 1964 Allied Jewish Campaign,
reported that more than $632,000
had been obtained on $10,055
pledges to place their 1964 per-
formance at the 101% mark of last
year's total.
Greetings from Federation were
brought by William Avrunin, asso-
ciate director of Federation; who
will become executive director suc-
ceeding Sobeloff.
A musical tribute to Sobeloff en-
titled "This Was The Time That
Was," reviewed his association with
the Women's Division. The skit was
written by Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner
and Mrs. Herschel V. Kreger, and
directed by Mrs. Sidney J. Winer.

MRS. WALTER CAPLAN
Margo Diann Kahn became the
bride of Walter C. Caplan in a
ceremony Sunday officiated by
Rabbi Milton Arm. They are the
children of Mr. and Mrs. Carl C.
Chaifetz, 14021 Sherwood, Oak
Park, and Mrs. Ruth Lightstone,
5677 Oakman Blvd. and the late
Bernard D. Caplan.
The bride wore a gown of silk
organza over peau de soie, with
Uhree-quarter sleeves and a hand-
embroidered bell skirt. She carried
two white orchids on her Bible.
Patricia Hope Kahn, the bride's
sister, attended her as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Mar-
tin Landay, sister of the bride-
groom, Elaine Smith, Janice Wein-
stein of Phoenix, and Marlene
Kahn, cousins of the bride.
Diane Landay, the bridegroom's
niece, was junior bridesmaid.
The bridegroom's brother, David
Caplan, served as best man. Martin
Landay, brother - in - law of the
bridegroom, Dennis Chatlin, Sid-
ney Moss and Stanley Ehrlichman
were the ushers.
After a wedding trip to Mont-
real and Quebec City, the couple
will reside on Greenfield Rd.

STRATFORD, On tario — The
opening of the Shakespearean Fes-
tival's 11th season with the
presentation M o n d a y, Tuesday
and Wednesday of "Richard II,"
"Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" and
"King Lear," again is drawing
scores of Detroiters who are making
Stratford one of their chief sum-
mer entertainment centers.
In groups and as individuals, De-
troiters have arranged for parties
for the opening weeks and the en-
suing periods of the long festival
season.
Further program plans and the
engagement of additional artists
also were completed for the eight
afternoon concerts to be presented
during the seven-week music sea-
son of the 1964 Stratford Festival.
Glenn Gould, Leonard Rose and
Oscar Shumsky, the festival's music
directors, have added an impressive
list of guest performers to those al-
ready announced for Stratford's
longest music season to date, July
3 to Aug. 22.
The additional artists engaged in-
clude: Paul Makanowitzky, violinist;
David Mankowitz, violinist, and Pa-
tricia Parr, pianist, who join Leon
Fleisher, pianist, Leonard Rose and
Oscar Shumsky in the Brahms pro-
gram, July 12; Shannon Bolin, mez-
zo-soprano; Charles Bressler, ten-
or; John Boyden, baritone; Charles
Rosen, pianist; Israel Baker, violin-
ist; Lois Marsall, soprano; Walter
Susskind, conducting the National
Festival Orchestra; Perry Bauman,
oboist; and Eudice Shapiro, vio-
linist.
Windsor Jewish Council
Sets Annual Meeting
The Windsor Jewish Community
Council will hold its annual meet-
ing 8:30 p.m. June 23 at the Jew-
ish Center. Election of officers and
repirts will be on the agenda, to
be followed by a reception in honor
o fthe outgoing president, Hany R.
Schwartz.
