Anniversary Fete

The Israel 16th anniversary din-
ner, the highlight of the Detroit
Israel Bond spring campaign, will
be held 7 p.m. June 10 at the
Statler-Hilton Hotel, it was an-
nounced by Torn Borman, general
chairman of the Detroit Israel
Bond Commit-
tee.

Gen. Laskov
War II, Gen. Laskov rose to the
command of a battalion in the
Jewish Brigade in Italy. His
greatest military exploits were
achieved in Israel's War of Liber-
ation and the Sinai Campaign. In
the War of Liberation he com-
manded a battalion which cleared
the road to Jerusalem and thus
brought food. water and supplies
to the besieged city. He also led an
armored column in the bitter battle
against the Arab stronghold at
Latrun.
Commanding the Northern Ar
mored Attacking Force during the
Sinai Campaign Gen. Laskov broke
through at Rafah and captured El
Arish to seal off the Gaza Strip, a
maneuever which helped to bring
that campaign to its swift conclu-
sion.
He was named chief of staff of
the Israel Army in 1957 when he
was only 39 years old.

A total of $15,000 in Israel Bonds was subscribed at the Bereznit-
zer Aid Society affair marking Israel's anniversary and honoring
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Koss. The society itself bought another $5,000
in Israel Bonds, bringing its purchase to $37,500 since the inaugura-
tion of the Israel Bond drive. In the photo are (from left) Meyer
