Habonim Evening Set The Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa annually honors those seniors from Detroit public and parochial schools who have com- pleted high school with an A— scholastic average and an outstand- ing citizenship record. The 300 delegates at Mumford's mock Republican convention deli- berated for seven hours last Friday, finally agreed on a platform, and nominated Sen. Barry Goldwater for president and Sen. Nelson Rockefeller of New York with best wishes for a successful convention. The convention was held under the auspices of the Mumford Cur- rent Affairs Club, Russ Linden, president. Graduation is fast approaching. The Senior Class is making pre- parations for its final activities. Over 400 seniors left Thursday night to spend the weekend in Washington. Plans are being made for the senior picnic June 5 at Kensington Park. The Senior So- ciety show, featuring top talent from the Senior Class, will be pre- sented for the school on the morn- ings of June 1 and 3. Dinner John E. Lurie, civic and com- munal leader, has been named chairman for the Detroit Friends of Yeshiva Uni- versity seventh annual dinner to be held June 2, 6:30 p.m., at Cabo Hall. The announce- ment was made by Abraham Bor- man, a member of the board of trustees of Ye- shiva. University and chairman of the Detroit Friends of Ye- shiva University. Edward C. Levy is co-chairman of Detroit Friends. Lurie The dinner, at which Benjamin Levinson will be guest of honor, will benefit Yeshiva University's na- tional scholarship program which provides full or partial grants-in-aid to 85 per cent of the 5,500 students enrolled at Yeshiva University. The scholar- ship program is a major item in the university's annual oper- ating budget of $24,000,000. with other leaders of his industry to support the project to raise standards of living in the new Jewish nation and to help solve its food problems. A noted philan- thropist and industrialist, Lurie is a past chaiman of the Allied Jew- ish Campaign, sponsored by the Jewish Welfare Foundation, and of the Allied Food Club. Many of the rabbis, business and professional leaders of the Detroit Jewish community are alumni of Yeshiva University and students attending are from this community and other areas throughout the United States.
