Mizrachi Honors Mrs. Joshua Sperka Manheim Shapiro
to Address JWF's
Staff Institute
Four hundred women gathered at Bnai David Synagogue Tuesday,
under the auspices of Fannie Gluck Chapter of Mizrachi, to honor
Mrs. Joshua Sperka (second from left) on her completion of a quart-
er century of service to Mizrachi Women and to the Jewish commun-
ity. Mrs. Matthew Clark (left) of Cleveland, daughter of Rabbi and
Mrs. Sperka, pi'esented a plaque marking the occasion to her mother.
Ahava Sperka, on behalf of the four daughters of the family, in-
scribed her mother for life membership in Mizrachi Women. On
behalf of the Jewish National Fund Council of Detroit, Mrs. Morris
Kutinsky, president of the JNF Women's Auxiliary, presented a
plaque marking the planting of trees in her honor by the JNF
Council. Mrs. Moses Wiser presented the citation on behalf of the
National Council of Mizrachi Women of America. Next to Mrs. Clark
and Mrs. Sperka are (from left) Mesdames Wiser, David Novetsky,
Milton Radner and Jacob Goldman.
Jews Assailed
Pro-Arab Leaflets Loosed in Argentina
A delegation of World Jewish
Congress leaders. gathered in
Buenos Aires for a meeting of the
South American Executive of the
World Jewish Congress, has re-
ceived assurancs from the Argen-
tinian minister of foreign affairs,
Zavala Oritz, that his government
will not tolerate any racist propa-
ganda against any minority group.
This assurance follows hard on
the heels of another meeting that
the president of the DAIA (Dele-
gacion de Asociaciones Israelitas
Argentinas), t h e representative
body of Argentinian Jewry, the
chairman of the WJC's S outh
American executive committee and
other leaders had with Argentina's
President Arturo Illia.
Behind the concern of the
Jewish leaders is the indication
of Arab League support for anti-
Semitic groups operating in
Argentina.
AROINTINO:
were not the principal subject of
the evening.
Slogans such as "Long Live
Hitler," "Nasser and Peron," "Jews
to the Crematoria" and "Make
Soap out of the Jews" were voiced
by participants in the meeting,
many of whom were identifiable
by their uniforms, as well as by
their Nazi salute, as members of
Tacuara or Guardia Restauradora
Nacionalista.
Pictured is a leaflet sent out by
a so-called Argentine Arab Youth
movement inviting the public to
a "big demonstration in support
of the Arab League." The leaflet
reads: "Enough of Zionist Lies.
Enough of camps for Israeli mili-
tary which offend our dignity as
Argentinians. Enough of currency
evasion and economic criminals
that bring misery to our people.
Enough of double nationality.
Come to the big demonstration in
support of the Arab League in the
Buenos Aires Theater."
