Born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., he is a graduate of Georgetown Univer- sity and the University of Michi- gan Law School. He served -five years in the U.S. Army during World War II, was wounded on D-Day but recovered in time to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Croix de Guerre and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
