Truman to Be Honorary Chairman
of Dinner Honoring Ben Levinson

orary chairman of the
Yeshiva University Din-
ner to be held June 2
at Cobo Hall, congra-
tulates Benjamin Lev-
inson, who will be hon-
ored at the dinner. The

cently when Levinson
was a guest of Truman
at his office in Inde-
pendence, Mo. In ac-
cepting the chairman-
ship of the dinner, Tru-
man told David Gold-
berg, founder and
treasurer of the Detroit
Friends of Yeshiva Uni-
versity, he hopes to be
present because of his
many years of friend-
ship with and high
esteem f o r Levinson.
Special guests will be
Dr. Clarence Hilberry,
Wayne State University; Rev. Celestin J. Steiner, S.J., University of
Detroit; Dr. Sanmel Belkin, Yeshiva University; Very Rev. Nicholas
Maestrini, Maryglade College; and Dr. Rembert Stokes, Wilberforce
University. All are presidents of colleges that have honored Levinson
for his service.
Shtetl folk songs of the mar-
tyred Mordecai Gebirtig, Yiddish
poet and singer of prewar Poland,
will be featured at the second an-
nual Music Festival of Cong. Aha-
vas Achim 8 p.m. Thursday at the
synagogue.
Cantor Simon Bermanis, the sis-
terhood singers, Bel Canto Choral
Group, violinist Mischa Mischa-
koff and singer Masha Benya will
perform. •
A special script using Gebirtig's
songs and commenting on the
events that stimulated their crea-
tion has been written by Rabbi
Milton Arm, who will be narrator.
Tickets are avilable at the syna-
gogue office.

CAMP CRILE, a 28-acre site 50 '
miles northwest of Detroit, is tak-
ing reservations for its summer
program, designed specifically for
the epileptic child of 8 to 15. The
nonsectarian, nonprofit camp,
sponsored by the Michigan Society
for Epileptic Children, will be

Lapeer State Home
Plans Forum on Care
for Mentally Retarded
Lapeer State Home and Training
School, in observance of Mental
Health Week, will present a forum
on institutional care and treatment
of the mentally retarded 1:30 p.m.
Sunday in Woodside School, on the
institution grounds.
Parents, professional groups and
agency representatives, as well as
the general public, will be given
an opportunity to acquaint them-
selves with programs available for
the mentally retarded at Lapeer.
Comments by department repre-
sentatives and individual discus-
sion will be features of the after-
noon.

The Lapeer home recently open-
ed a treatment facility for the
emotionally disturbed, the first of
its kind in Michigan. It will pro•
vide special treatment for 25 boys
and 25 girls age 10 to 18 now in
residence at Lapeer.
The staff, headed by Mrs. Mary
Cassell, RN, building supervisor, is
specially trained in psychiatric
nursing, and the program will be
headed by a psychiatrist. Dr. An-
thony M. Abruzzo is medical super-
intendent of the Lapeer home.
