work field, twice a member of the
Knesset, Israel's
Parliament, and
a member of the
executive of His-
tadrut, Israel's

tion, died last
weekend. Presi-
d ent Zalman
Shazar, a cousin
of Mrs. Twersky,
:attended the fun-
eral.
Mrs. Twersky,
Mrs. Twersky who died at age
60. headed Haifa's and Jerusa-
lem's departments of social work,
and was active in Moetzet Hapoa-
lot, Women Workers' Council. At
the end of World War II she spent
two years on missions to DP
camps on behalf of the Jewish
Agency, and later went on mis-
sions to the United States, Canada
and Mexico.
Dr. Maurice Karpf Dies;
Social Work Leader
LOS ANGELES (JTA)-Dr.
Maurice J. Karpf, distinguished
psychologist, educator and social
worker, died here at age 73. He
had been director of Chicago Jew-
ish Charities, president of and pro-
fessor at the Graduate School of
Jewish Social Work. executive di-
rector of the Federation of Jewish
Welfare Organizations of Los An-
geles and president of the Inter-
national Conference of Jewish So-
cial Work. His last position was as
executive director of the Los An-
geles Jewish. Community Council.
Rev. Chworowsky Dies;
Was Writer on Zionism
A Unitarian minister who wrote
extensively on Zionism died April
9 in Riverside, Conn. Rev. Karl M.
Chworowsky, long a leader in ef-
forts to promote racial and religi-
ous brotherhood, was 77.
Rev. Chworowsky's articles in be-
half of brotherhood were published
throughout the world, and he was,
for several years, a member of the
national executive board of the
American Christian Palestine Com-
mittee. He was born in Riga, Lat-
via, and came to the United States
as a child.
