TEL AVIV — Tribute to the
memory of Yitzhak Ben-Zvi,
Israel's second president, was paid
Tuesday at a memorial meeting
on the first anniversary of his
death in the presence of President
Shazar, Mrs. Ben-Zvi, Premier Levi
Eshkol, speaker Kaddish Luz, cabi-
net members, the chief rabbis and
diplomats. The ceremony was held
in Jerusalem's communal hall.
In his eulogy, Premier Eshkol
said that the late president preach-
ed and proved that the only condi-
tion for Israel's independence and
statehood was being "one nation."
Speaker Luz cited the great love
and admiration of the entire na-
tion for the late president and
said his character could best be
described by his "love of the Jew-
ish people." Earlier, a special
prayer was said in the president's
home.
Just before noon, members of
the late president's family, Presi-
dent Shazar and Premier Eshkol
attended prayers at the graveside
in Jerusalem where President Sha-
zar eulogized Mr. Ben-Zvi. He said
the late president symbolized the
era of the ingathering of the
exiles. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv
officials said their main streets
would be named after Mr. Ben-Zvi.
