A compilation of some 60 photo-
graphs from movies and historical
records has been inserted in an
album the only comments in which
are explanatory notes for each
photo from some commonplace
Yiddish sayings.
Appearing under the title "Are
You Sure You're Kosher?", this
"album," by Martin Gross and Ted
Sennett, published by Paul S.
Eriksson, Inc. (119 W. 57th, NY19),
there are cutlines such as—
A woman at gunpoint, to an in-
vading mob: "I swear to you we
have no pickled herring in the
house!" . . . A caption for a Civil
War generals' meeting photo: ,"Gen-
eral Lee says he won't sign until
he gets his pastrami sandwich" .. .
A Lincoln photo with "Abraham .. .
this is a name for a President?"
Etc. . . . Etc.
The two authors show genuine
cleverness. They may be ques-
tioned about taste of sonie of the
captions or the validity of the title
of the "album," but they certainly
display ingenuity in their selec-
tions.
