Interest in Conversion to Judaism Reported
Among Many Prospective Spouses of Jews

CHICAGO, (JTA)—Evidence
of a growing interest in con-
version to Judaism "by pros-
pective spouses of Jews" has
been reported by the chairman
of a Chicago project to provide
classes for prospective converts
under Conservative auspices.

that the requests of many such
would-be converts had prompt-
ed the Chicago region of the
Rabbinical Assembly of Amer-
ica to start the classes, which
are being held at the College
for Jewish Studies.
He said that the prospective
converts are accompanied by
their future spouses, thus mak-
ing it possible for both "to
more fully understand the pre-
cepts of Judaism."

Million Signatures Are Sought to Secure Grave Restoration

NEW YORK, (JTA) — An-
nouncing that two prominent
West Germans have assured
backing for a demand that des-
ecrated Jewish graves in East
European countries be repaired,
the New York section of the
World Center of European Rab-
bis conducted' a campaign to
obtain 1 million signatures dur-

ing the PassoVer week, support-
ing that demand.
Rabbi M. J. Rubin, a member
of the organization's American
presidium, and chairman of
the World Center, received let-
ters backing the plan from Emil
Hirsch, head of the indemni-
fication committee' of the Bund-
estag, lower house of the Ger-

man parliament, and Willy
Brandt, mayor of West Berlin.
The plan, said Rabbi Rubin,
is to restore graves destroyed
by the Nazis during the war
under the supervision of the
International Red Cross. There
are at least 2,000 such graves
in various East European coun-
tries, he said.
