New Stamps—Ben-Zvi and Science

The Israel Ministry of Posts announces
the forthcoming issue of a postage stamp
commemorating the first anniversary of the
death of the late President Izhak Ben-Zvi.
The stamp of the denomination of IL .12
(4 cents) is brown and bears the portrait of
the late president, prepared from a photo-
graph. First day covers will be available for
6 cents. Another special issue is a series
of three commemorative stamps in honor of Memorial Day
and the 16th anniversary of the State of Israel. Theme is
"Israel's contribution to science." Depicted are (from left)
an electric computer, macromolecules of the living cell and
terrestial spectroscopy. Priced at IL 1.13 (38 cents), they may
be purchased together with a first day cover for 40 cents. The
minimum amount of any single order is $1. Prepaid orders
may be addresSed to the Ministry of Posts, Jerusalem.

BOSTON, (JTA) — Plans to
form an institute on food tech-
nology and kashruth in coopera-
tion with local colleges and uni-
versities were announced by the
Vaad Harabonim of Massachu-
setts folowing a seminar on
the subject held at Harvard
University.
The seminar, sponsored by
the Vaad, was told that the im-
pact of modern food techno-
logy on he Jewish Dietary Laws
has profoundly changed the pro-
cedures for kosher certification.
The moderator was Prof. Sam-
uel A. Goldblith, Professor of
Food Science and executive of-
ficer of the Department of Nu-
trition of the Massachusetts In-
stitute of Technology. He serves
as chairman of the Vaad's Ad-
visory Board of Food Technolo-
gists.
