Jacob Albert, for 42 years chief of the promotion depart- ment of the Detroit News, died Wednesday in St. J o s e p h's Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, at the age of 69. He became ill two weeks ago after his mar- riage to Heln Ostrander Lebret. His first wife died in 1958. He also is survived by his son, John J., a WWJ-TV sales representa- tive; a grandchild; a brother Gerrish, with whom the de- ceased operated the G. W. Ger- rish Advertising Agency at the time of his death; and two sis- ters, Mrs. Everett 0. Neilsen and Milton S. Tarr. Born in Vilna, Russia, June 2, 1894, Mr. Albert was brought to this country at the age of 7. He was a Harvard graduate. In Gloucester, Mass., where his family settled, he organized and published a school newspaper. He rose high in the News, having been named executive assistant in the newspaper's ad- ministration. During World War I he was a Dollar-a-Year-Man in the De- partment of Labor. He was active for a number of years on public relations commitee of Allied Jewish Cam- paigns and in efforts to combat anti-Semitism. Leading Yiddish Actor Abraham Morewski Dies at 78 in Warsaw LONDON (JTA) - Many thousands of Jews and Poles attended funeral services in Warsaw for the late Abraham Morewski, considered the fore- most Yiddish actor in Poland and Russia, who died at the age of 78, according to dispatches received here from the Polish capital. Morewski practically dominat- ed the Yiddish stage in Russia and Poland for about 60 years, spanning the period from Czar- ist days to the present. As far back as 1910, he performed in a play witnessed by the then- Czar Nicholas II - a rare achievement for a Jewish actor. He was one of the most bril- liant members of the prewar Yiddish Folk Theater in Vilna. He also played one year in the Yiddish Art Theater in New York, of which the late Maurice Schwartz was the director. Newspaper Electrician, Wilfred Cohen, Dies Wilfred W. Cohen, a Detroit Free Pr es s electrician for 17 years prior to his retirement last year, died Monday at age 73. Mr. Cohen, 15803 Lesure, was a native of Beaver Falls, Pa.
