Swiss Govt. Locates $2.2 Million
Belonging to Jews Killed by Nazis

The search for the hidden
assets was conducted by the
Federal Department of Justice
and Police, acting in accord-
ance with a law passed in
1962. That law instructed the
identification by all banks and
others holding assets belong-
ing to foreigners or stateless
persons who have not been
heard from since the end of
World War II in May 1945.
According to the announce-
ment. 961 such accounts have
been located, valued at around
$2.2 'ninon. The government
stated that, after an effort is
made to trace the owners, the
remaining funds will be turned
over to a special fund, to be
controlled by the federal assem-
bly.
Jewish spokesmen said there
seems to be "some incompatibil-
ity" between the amounts re-
ported and the known flight of
Jewish capital into Switzerland
during the Hitler era.

- GENEVA (JTA)—An official
announcement issued by the
Swiss government said the total
of assets unclaimed by Jewish
victims of Nazism from Swiss
banks and insurance companies
—or under the control of law-
yers—amounts to $2.2 million,
according to a six-month search
conducted by the Federal De-
partment of Justice.

Jewish spokesmen here ex-
pressed disappointment with the
announcement. claiming that the
assets hidden in this country
by Jews subsequently massa-
cred by the Nazis had totaled
perhaps more than $50 million.

LISTENING

THE SIX-YEAR-OLD cerebral
palsy victim, Danny Lewis, men-
tioned in last week's column as
wishing he could speak to his
favorite TV personality, "Soupy"
Sales, has had his dream come
true . . . "Soupy" called from
California and spoke to little
Danny for five minutes . . .
They had a lot to talk about
. . . "Soupy" asked him how
the weather was in good old
Detroit and if Danny could
throw a good snowball . . .
Danny excitedly asked about
the various characters who per-
form with "Soupy" and told him
of the birthday party he was
having the next day .. . Danny
assured "Soupy" he was going
to work twice as hard to walk
again ... Perhaps when "Soupy"
comes to Detroit soon, and pays
Danny a visit, the little six-
year-old will be able to walk
up to him and say, "Look! I
made it!"
IN A NEW YORK cab, last
week, Lou and Cele Kasdan
were asked by the driver where
they wanted to go . . . Lou
answered, "Anywhere," . . . The
driver stopped and said, "Get
out, ' got a schedule to make."

Jabotinsky Remains to Be Brought
to Israel; B-G to Attend Reburial

JERUSALEM (JTA) — For-
mer Prime Minister David Ben-
Gurion, who during his premier-
ship, opposed government sanc-
tion for the bringing to Israel
of the remains of Vladimir
Jabotinsky, late founder of the
Zionist - Revisionist movement
who died in the United States
in 1940, said he will attend
the funeral ceremony when
Jabotinsky's remains will be
reburied in Is-
rael.
The Cabin-
et voted per-
mission to
transfer Jabo-
tinsky's re-
. mains to Is-
rael. Informed
.1 of the Cabin-
et's decision,
B e n - Gurion
said he still
thinks this was
Jabotinsky not a matter
for the government to deal with
but, since a decision was taken,
he would certainly participate in
the funeral.
It is believed that Herut
will name a special commit-
tee of veteran Revisionists to
go to the United States to
bring the body here, and to
make the funeral arrange-
ments. The remains will be

r

transferred to Israel soil hily
,9 on the 24th anniversary
of Jabotinsky's death, the
Herut party decided.
(In New York, Judah Lap-
son, national commander of the
American Veterans of the Jew-
ish Legion, sent a cable to Is-
rael's Premier Levi Eshkol, of-
fering the Legion's participa-
tion in carrying out the arrange-
ments in the United States for
the transfer of Jabotinsky's re-
mains to Israel.
Beinesh Epstein, executive
vice-chairman of the Zionist-Re-
visionists of America, issued a
statement declaring that "the
Revisionist movement received
with great satisfaction the news
that the government of Israel
decided to carry out Jabotinsky's
testament and transfer his re-
mains to Israel.")

The average person spends
only 25 minutes a day in artic-
ulated speech; the rest of the
time spent "conversing" he is
grimacing, smiling, frowning,
shrugging, what have you.
