Nancy Ruth Grossman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Sol C.
Grossman of Shrewsbury Road, is a recipient of the William J.
Branston Freshman Prize, an annual award to University of
Michigan students who, - in their first semester, are in the upper
7 per cent of their class. This prize will be presented at a special
convocation May 8. Nancy was graduated from Mumford High
School in June, 1963, with Phi Beta Kappa honors. She was
elected to the Alpha Lambda Delta National Scholastic Society
for freshman women at the University of Michigan.
Bride-elect Arlene Lois Shapiro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence L. Shapiro of Stahelin Rd., is being honored at several
showers and parties prior to her June marriage to Harvey
Paul Schwartzberg of Oak Park. Hostesses at showers early
this month, at Topinka's were Mesdames Joseph Schwartzberg
and Sam Schwartzberg. The Scotch & Sirloin will be the setting
for a bridal shower April 26 given by Mesdames Joseph Schane,
Louis Aston. Philip Surath and Arnold Taylor of Bay City.
A leadership reception, in advance of the annual Congrega-
tion Beth Abraham testimonial dinner on behalf of Israel Bonds,
will be hosted by Cantor and Mrs. Shabtai Ackerman, 8:30 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 24, at their residence, 18254 Woodingham.
Sidney Ni. Shevitz, president of the Detroit Jewish Community
Council, will be guest speaker.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bank, 18300 Santa Barbara, had an open
house recently for their daughter, Miriam Sara, and her husband
Netanial Barzelai, of Rehovoth, Israel. The couple will soon leave
to make their home in Israel.
Mrs. Mollie Fellows was crowned Queen Esther at the
recent Purim Ball held by Bnai David Men's Club.
Shirley Lerman, formerly • of 18074 Greenlawn, is now
residing at the Merton Terrace Apartments, 651 Merton.

Recipe for MatzoMeal Pancakes

4 large eggs
1 ,4 teaspoon salt
Pinch of white pepper
Pinch of baking powder
34 cup of water
1 cup of matzoh meal
Open eggs and beat well, adding
spices and water, then the matzoh
meal and lastly, the baking_ powder.
Refrigerate for a minimum of 30
minutes. Use china or enamel bowl
as receptacle, not stainless steel.
Grease frying pan thoroughly, and
use a serving spoon to drop in bat-
ter.
Yield: six to eight pancakes. If
used an an entree. make smaller
portions for 12 servings.

Parker, who puts in a 14-
hour day at three Yeshiva
University cafeterias, is an au-
thority on kosher cooking. He
estimates he drives about 300
miles a week to oversee the Pre-
paration of 10,000 kosher meals
served at the university's three
cafeterias—Yeshiva University's

Stern College for Women, 253
Lexington Avenue, Manhattan;
and the Albert Einstein College
of Medicine, Eastchester Road
and Morris Park Avenue, in the
Bronx.
Parker became a cook by ac-
cident. At 18 he was an engi-
neering student in his native
Vienna but was forced to flee
when Austria was invaded in
1938. He went to a refugee
camp in Switzerland where he
helped out in the kitchens and
gradually began to cook. He
came to the United States in
1947 and stepped into his YeShi-
va University role ten years
later.
