LETTER BOX Kasle Backs Hillel Day School Appeal, Urges Its Support Editor, The Jewish News: May I have the privilege, through your paper, to congra- tulate the Detroit Jewish com- munity on being fortunate in having in our community nine rabbis and nine presidents from various congregations, who are in agreement and expressed themselves in a message to the Jewish community in the Feb- ruary 28th issue of the Jewish News, of their support to the modern, traditional Hillel Day School. The school is only 5 1/2 years old and yet has been recognized nationally and locally for its ad- vanced progress it is making in the life of Jewish education. It is no secret that there is an extreme shortage of teach- ers, leaders, educators and rab- bis in the entire United States. Up until now the American Jewish public has been liv- ing on the fat of the past edu- cators who have come in from Europe as a result of two world wars, and we are still confirm-, ing on the bones and ashes that are left It is most important for American Jewish communities, if we are to get future teach- ers, leaders, writers, profes- sional people and rabbis, that we use all of our efforts to build and support modern, tra- ditional day schools. I am very thankful to the rabbis and presidents and the congregations for their recom- mendation to the Detroit Jew- ish public to support the mo- dern, traditional Hillel Day School, and I personally wish to plead to the Detroit Jewish community, as a layman, to re- spond generously. Sincerely, ABE KASLE.
