LONDON—A national monu-
ment at the Treblinka concen-
tration camp, where 800,000
Jews were murdered by the
Nazis, will be formally opened
May 10, it was reported here
Wednesday from Warsaw.
A meeting of the national
committee for the monument
was told that the sum of 8 mil-
lion zloti ($336,000) was con-
tributed by various public
bodies for the monument.
Members of the committee
included Polish military, po-
litical and social organiza-
tions from all parts of the
world. The monument, which
is shaped like a mausoleum,
carries the following inscrip-
tion:
"On this site, between July
1942 and August 1943, stood a
Hitlerian extermination camp
where 800.000 Jews from Po-
land, the Soviet Union, Czecho-
slovakia, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria,
France, Belgium, Germany and
Greece were done to death.
"On Aug. 2, 1943, the surviv-
ing inmates in the camp re-
volted. The revolt was ruth-
lessly and bloodily suppressed
by the Hitlerian executioners.
