the Ecole des Beaux Arts with
Lipchitz. From 1924, he has ex-
hibited regularly at leading
world galleries, and his paint-
ings have been acquired by the

Receive Two Amity Awards

Mayor Cavanagh, citing a long
list of Dr. Leon Fram's activi-
ties in the field of human rela-
tions, presented the 17th an-
nual Amity Award Tuesday to
Temple Israel's spiritual leader.
A special Amity Award hon-
oring Wayne State University
for its "provision of equal op-
portunity" to all students, was
presented at the award lunch-
eon to President Dr. Clarence
B. Hilberry.
This was the first time in the
history of the American Jewish
Congress Women's Division,
which sponsored the award and
luncheon at Temple Israel, that
such a dual presentation has
been made.
Mayor Cavanagh, in refer-
ring to "the growing and rally-
ing belief in equality in this
city," and a new attitude of
understanding based on a
"foundation set down by such
men and women as Dr, Hil-
berry and Rabbi Fram," pro-
claimed Tuesday as "Amity
Day." He presented the proc-
lamation to Mrs. Samuel Lin-
den, chairman of the Amity
Award.
The citation to Dr. Fram read:
"Because he was never silent
when human dignity, civil
rights, or individual freedoms
were threatened, this 17th Am-
ity Award is presented."

Dr. Fram and Dr. Hilberry
were chosen by an Amity board
of judges under chairman Rt.
Rev. Richard S. Emrich, bishop
of the Episcopal Diocese of
Michigan.

Congratulations to the Amity
Award recipients were received
from Governor Romney, Con-
gressman Neil Staebler, Joa-
chim Prinz, president of the AJ
Congress, and Sen. Philip Hart.
A musical tribute was given
by Cantor Harold Orbach, and
Mrs. Leopold Snyder extended
greetings.
