Judge Overcome by Horrors Danny Raskin's
Related at Auschwitz Trial
LISTENING

FRANKFURT (JTA) — The
horrors suffered by inmates at
the Auschwitz death camp were
described in such gruesome de-
tail that a judge at the war
crimes trial nearly collapsed.
The trial—in its third month—
was suspended after only 90
minutes of the witness's testi-
mony.
The witness. Dr., Otto Wol-
ken, was the first Jewish sur-
vivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau to
testify at the trial here of the
22 death factory guards and
medical personnel.
Before the trial is over, 200
witnesses, most of them Jew-
ish, some from Israel and the
United States, are expected to
take the stand.
Dr. Wolken, 60, of Vienna,
had been an inmate at the
Birkenau camp, whence Jews
and others were fed into the
gas ovens. He told the court

of his group who are under de-
tention. He had been re-arrested
in court on new charges of
murder. Until now, he had been
free on $12,500 bail on charges
of "complicity in murder." The
new charges allege that he had,
personally, shot three Ausch-
witz prisoners with his pistol.

Meanwhile, in Bonn, Wil-
liam Doering, 46, a former
SS officer, was found guilty
a second time on charges of
having taken part in mass
murders of Jews in Russia
during the war and was sen-
tenced to four years in prison.

The former chief of the
criminal police in Sieburg, near
Bonn, was originally sentenced
to six years' imprisonment by
a Bonn court in November,
1962.

He was then convicted on
charges of aiding and abetting
the murder of 669 Russian
Jews and 16 mentally retarded
children during the 1941-42
period as an SS lieutenant in
charge of an extermination
squad. He received his second

Toronto Synagogues, Jewish Organizations,
Receive More Anti-Semitic Literature

TORONTO, (JTA)—Scores of
Toronto synagogues, Jewish or-
ganizations and Jewish individ-
uals reported a renewal of hate
literature mailing.
They said they had reecived
letters urging them to join the
National White Americans
Party literature demanding "the
arrest of all Jews involved in
Communist or Zionist plots,
public trials and executions."
The party was listed as
having headquarters in At-
lanta, Ga. In addition to the
invitation to join, the en-
velopes contained a member-
ship card and a multilangu-
age anti-Jewish leaflet pro-
duced by Einar Aberg of
Sweden, a known anti-Semite.
The letters were mailed local-
ly from a Toronto suburb post
office box and ironically con-
tained a post office imprint
"Brotherhood Week, Believe It,
Live It, Support It."
In addition to the program
for arrest and execution of
Jews in "Communist and Zino-
ist" plots," the letter advocated
immediate sterilization of "all
other Jews." The box number
was known to be used by David
A. Stanley, 19, a former high
school student who was involv-
ed last September in the race
riots in Birmingham and who
has since been distributing neo-
N azi leaflets in Toronto.

Ottawa Receives Bill

OTTAWA, (JTA)—David Or-

introduced a bill to give the
postmaster-general the power to
stop mail service to such or-
ganizations as the National
White Americans party which
has announced it intends to dis-
tribute 1 million anti-Jewish
leaflets this year in a member-
ship campaign.
The Winnipeg Jewish MP
submitted the bill to House of
Commons officials after the
justice ministry said that the

TORONTO, (JTA) — Saul
Hayes, executive vice-president
of the Canadian Jewish Con-
gress has sent a wire to Guy
Favreau, newly named minister
of justice for Canada, urging
that he consider the recently
broadcast distribution of anti-
semitic material inciting to
genocide—it advocated steriliza-
tion of Jews—as material which
should be subject to a legal ban
because of its incitement to
violence.

The postmaster-general had
