Comedian George Gobel and
Tova Porat, versatile Israeli
folk singer, will head the pro-
gram at the Detroit Pioneer
Women's Israel Bond Award
Luncheon March 12 in the
. .....

Gobel will be honored with
an award. An added attraction
will be comedian Joey Russell.
Mrs. Norman Leemon will
serve as luncheon chairman,
it was announced by Mrs.

men's Council president. Mrs.
Leemon is also the arrange-
ments chairman, and Mrs.
Michael Michlin, ticket chair-
man.
Born in Chicago, Gobel was
a boy soprano in a church
choir. He started his profes-
sional career with a group of
western entertainers which in-
cluded Gene, Autry and Red
Foley. During World War II
he served in the air force and
after the war started his career
as a comedian, his first 'en-
gagement being at a convention
in Grand Rapids. He became
one of the leading personali-
ties on TV, and the George
Gobel TV Show won two Emmy
Awards.
He has appeared on Broad-
way and in leading night clubs
throughout the country. Gobel
is taking time off from his en-
gagement at the Roostertail to
appear before the Pioneer Wo-
rn en .
Tova Porat was awarded
the Marion Anderson award
and won first prize in the in-
ternational Paris competition
in which singers from 31
nations participated.
Russell, who is known as
"Col. Clown," has appeared at
Grossinger's and The Concord.
Reservations for the kosher
luncheon are being taken by the
Pioneer Women's office, DI
1-0786, or the Israel Bond Of-
fice, DI 1-5707.

A Hebrew village, the Kfar
Ivri, will be in operation. for
Camp Tamarack in Ortonville
June 28 to July 24.
Twenty-four students selected
from the High School Depart-
ment of the United Hebrew
Schools will constitute the
group of campers. The program
is cosponsored by the High
School and Fresh Air Society.
Supervised by Sylvan J.
Ginsburg-h, principal of the
high school, the campers will
have Hebrew classes and in-
formal study groups during
the morning hours. After-

SEIGEL - BARNETT: Carol
Sue Barnett, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney A. Barnett of
Ludlow Ave., Huntington Woods,
became the bride of Morton
Lester Seigel in an afternoon
ceremony Sunday at the Sher-
aton Cadillac Hotel. Mr. and
Mrs. Solomon Seigel of Silver
Springs, Md., are the parents of
the bridegroom. The bride's
gown of imported cloque silk
organza was designed with a
fitted bodice, short sleeves cap-
ped with crystal beads and a
soft floor-length skirt. A match-
ing pillbox with an original
jeweled design held her illusion
veil. She carried an antique
Bible covered with Stephano-
tis and Phallaenopsis orchids.
The bride's attendants were
Myrna Greenberg, maid of hon-
or, and Ethel Seigel, sister of
the bridegroom. Charles Futro-
vsky was best man. Ronald Bar-
nett, the bride's brother, Larry
Davidson, Seldon Kaine, and
Dr. Stuart Davidson served as
ushers. After an eastern honey-
moon, the couple will reside in
Rockville, Md.

RANDELL-KIRSCHNER —
At a recent double-ring cere-
mony, Gayle Audrey Kirschner
became the bride of Lewis
Lazer Randell. Rabbi Morris Ad-
ler officiated. Parents of the
couple are Mr. and Mrs. Jack
H. Kirschner of Wisconsin Ave.
and Mrs. Goldie Randell of
Richton Ave. Mrs. Gerald M.
Kirschner was matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Harvey
Gordon, Sue Koblin of Chicago
and Linda Kirschner. Gerald
M. Kirschner, brother of the
bride, was best man. Ushers
were Morris Randell, brother
of the bridegroom, Harvey Gor-
don, Burt Winer, Norbert Met-
ier and Rollin Parker. After a
New York honeymoon, the cou-
ple is living on Greenfield Rd.

ROSEN-STERNS. Judy Sterns,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen
M. Sterns, became the bride of
Edward Rosen, of Worcester,
Mass., Feb 23, at a ceremony
performed by Rabbi Benjamin
Gorrelick, at the Imperial
Room. Susan Plotnick served
as maid of honor. Marshall
Rosen, brother of the bride-
groom, was best man. Follow-
ing a Chicago honeymoon, the
couple will reside at the New
Centre Apartments.
