Such are the educational ele-
ments that go into the making
of a Beth Jacob student, inte-
grating a full knowledge and
observance of tradition with a
complete awareness of the phys-
ical and social environment in
which we live.

It is to the pursuance of this
program that we dedicate our-
selves, and to you the men and
women who have made this pos-
sible, we are forever grateful.

The purchase, by Beth Yehudah Schools, of the former
Shaarey Zedek Annex at 13755 W. Seven Mile Road, near
Lesure, was consumated recently.
The new facilities are being used by the Yeshivah to
house the girls' classes, known as Beth Jacob, and the Kinder-
garten, now in session at the Daniel A. Laven Building on
Dexter and Sturtevant, and the Afternoon Talmud Torah,
which has hitherto met at the Northwest Young Israel on
Wyoming.
Acquisition of the Shaarey Zedek school building, which
has been vacated a year and a half ago when the congregation
moved to Southfield, constitutes the first phase in the relocation
of Beth Yehudah from its main center on Dexter, which served
as the home of • the Yeshivah for the last 22 years. A large
tract of land at 10 1/2 Mile Road and Greenfield has already
been procured by the Yeshivah, plans drawn and foundation
laid for the construction of its future main campus.
The day school for girls, known as Beth Jacob, began as
a kindergarten and afternoon Hebrew classes in the year
5703 (1943) through the efforts of the Ladies of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, and has since grown into a complete elementary,
intermediate and high school for religious and general studies.
The present enrollment is 215 in twelve grades. Thirty-seven
girls were graduated from the Beth Jacob in the last five years.

We who have a special privi-
lege to say every morning a
distinct—Blessed Art Thou who
has created us according to His
will, have now for you a prayer
together with the "Shehechionu"
on this building—We thank you.
G-d, for the foresight of our
leaders, who did what is Thy
will.

Onion flavor does it!

The historical metamorphosis
of the Jewish community finds
one of its climaxes in the trans-
plantation of our department of
the Beth Yehudah School Sys-
tem. We are conscious of what
our Sages say: "Whenever
Israel was exiled, Torah fol-
lowed them." Although we know

that we are in the Diaspora, we
cherish the thought that wher-
ever we go. Torah is with us,
bonding us together, influenc-
ing us, and guiding us. This is
evidenced by the progress of
our community, and also repre-
sents the changes in American
Jewish life. It is fortunate for
us, the student body of Beth
Jacob, that we live at a time
when the leaders of our com-
munity realize and acknowledge
the necessity of a Beth Jacob,
establishing a school wherein
Jewish girls can have an all-
inclusive education of Jewish
and general studies, in the at-
mosphere of Torah and Yiddish-

miniature. We are well aware
that this Torah education is in-
tensive and vigorous, filled with
meaning and import for Israel
as a people. As such, we are I
ready to offer sacrifices for this
ideal upon the altar you have
provided.
Speaking for the entire stu-
dent body, I feel that we now
have an opportunity to act as an
independent unit to employ all
the initiative and creative po-
tential that is in our capacity.
Reaered in such an institution
where there is a synthesiS of
Torah learning and general ed-
ucation, we feel equipped to
make a distinct contribution to
society. We have an opportunity
to present to Detroit Jewry an
image of the modern young re-
ligious woman in today's world.
To introduce you to our daily
experience, I would like to cite
two examples from a typical day
in .Beth Jacob:
The study of classifications
of foods in Biology is to me a
rather mundane topic. Com-
bined, however, with the laws
which command us to thank
our Creator in different ways
for different foods, this topic
becomes interesting, as well
as necessary for our everyday
observance of Jewish laws.
In American Literature we
read an essay on humility by
Benjamin Franklin, who said:
"In reality, there is perhaps
no one of our natural faults
so hard to subdue as pride."
Earlier in the day, we studied
the passage in Deuteronomy
where the Torah tells us that
Moses, Man of God, achieved

What Margarine is Delicious? Kosher? Pareve?

Mar-Parv, of course! Mar-Pary is the Margarine with the fine fresh delicate flavor. And
the Margarine that may be used at both dairy and meat meals. Contains no milk or animal
