NEW YORK, (JTA) — The

announced.

An event of historic signifi-
cance was scheduled for Thurs-
day night at the Waldorf Asto-
ria Hotel, New York, by the
American Committee for the
Weizmann Institute of Science
Rehovoth, Israel.
President Lyndon B. Johnson
was to be the speaker at the
annual $250-a-plate dinner. Orig-
inally, the din-
ner was to
have been held0
on Dec. 5 and
President John .
F. Kenn edy:.-
was the sched-
uled speaker
The tragi
death of Presi
dent Kenned
called for the Feinberg
postponement of the dinner,
and President Johnson accepted
the invitation to deliver the ad-
dress at the yearly event.
Abraham Feinberg, dinner
chairman, stated when he an-
nounced President Johnson's
acceptance:
"Proceeds of this event will
be allocated toward a $5,000,000
endowment fund for the estab-
lishment of the John Fitzgerald
Kennedy Memorial Fellowships.
The 46 annual fellowships at the
Institute's Graduate School in
Rehovoth, Israel—one for each
year of Mr. Kennedy's life—will
be offered to qualified students
from the United States, the
United Kingdom, Europe, Israel
and the Afro-Asian countries."
It has been explained that the
Kennedy fellowships are being
established in tribute to the late
President's philosophy on the
interaction of science and states-
manship. President Kennedy's
personal interest in the Weiz-
mann Institute was expressed on
several occasions. At the corner-
stone laying of the Feinberg
School for Advanced Studies in
the Natural Sciences at the
Weizmann Institute, on Nov. 2,
1962, Myer Feldman, his spe-
cial assistant, read the following
message from Mr. Kennedy:
"The greatness of a school is
measured neither by acres nor
by numbers of students—but by
purpose and accomplishment.
The Weizmann Institute has al-
ready, in a few years, earned
its greatness."

OPEN EVENINGS and SUNDAY

WASHINGTON, (JTA) —
U.S. opposition to the Arab
boycott directed against Israel
was reiterated by Asst. Secre-
tary of State Frederick T. Dut-
ton in a letter to Rep. Leonard
Farbstein of New York.
The congressman had in-
quired about reports that the
Lebanese authorities have
blacklisted four American firms
because of their business ties
with Israel.
"The U.S. government's op-
position and our noncondona-
tion of it has been made known
to the Lebanese government as
well as to other Arab govern-
ments on a number of occa-
sions in the past.
"Our position on this issue
is unmistakably clear. Should
the blacklist reports be sub-
stantiated and the firms to
which you refer approach the
department for assistance, the
department will, of course, be
prepared to protest the boycot-
ting on the grounds of princi-
ple to the Lebanese govern-
ment."

Now at Guardian Sav-
ings money orders are
available drawn on the
BANK LEUMI LE-IS-
RAEL, Israel's national
bank. These money or-
ders can be cashed im-
mediately in Tel Aviv.
