In a message ror Race Re- lations Sabbath this Saturday, the committee on justice and peace of the Reform Central Conference of Amrican Rabbis has called for "integration in the heart" along with desegre- gation of jobs, housing, schools and public facilities. The message, expressing sad- ness at the assassination of President Kenney, referred to his "profound concern and ours for racial justice." The mesage regards "as im- perative the immediate enact- ment of the civil rights legis- lation now before Congress for which our martyred president so devotedly labored" and asks rabbis and their congregations "to help create a climate of opinion which will convey to the Congress a sense of ur- gency . . ." LAKEWOOD, N.J., (JTA) — The annual national conference of the Rabbinical Council of America—an Orthodox group— opened this week with an ap- peal by Rabbi Abraham N. AvRutick, president, that the United Nations enforce the pro- visions of the Israel-Jordan armistice agreement assuring to Jews access to the Wailing Wall. Other sacred Jewish shrines also are in territory oc- cupied by Jordan. In his presidential address, Rabbi AuRutick noted that on sacred Christian Holy Days, Israeal gladly permits Israel's Christian citizens to visit holy places in Jordan. "But since the establish- ment of the state of Israel," he declared, "no Jew has been permitted to visit and pray at the Wailing Wall in Old Jerusalem, the last rem- nant of our sacred Temple and as such, the site most sacred to Jewish tradition." He said it was "the obliga- tion of the United Nations, whose policy it is to enhance the freedom of the individual and the community, to enforce this basic and elementary right which is now being denied to the members of the Jewish community throughout the world." Rabbi Israel Miller, chairman of the commission on Jewish chaplaincy of the National Jew- ish Welfare Board, said that the clergyman in military uniform is doing a much better job than his civilian counterpart. He praised the military chaplains for the excellent morale of the American troops overseas and for the religious revival mili- tary installations are experienc- ing. The learned, as they grow older, grow wiser; the ignorant, as they grow older, become more foolish.—Sabbath. 152.
