Gorrelick, Moses Lehrman and Jacob E. Segal for their combined 100 years of s e r v i c e in the rab- binate. Declaring that the Jewish community in the United States must rise to its historic destiny, Dr. Simon Greenberg, vice chan- cellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, the main speaker, said: "We are not worried about anti-Semitism — we are wor- ried about the blessing, the freedom, the prosperity which is ours. Will we be able to stand freedom as we were able to stand up under persecution? Will we be able to stand pro- sperity as our forefathers did adversity? To quote the Psalm- ist 'God gave them what they asked for and into their souls there entered a leanness.' " The dinner was held on be- half of the Jewish Theological Seminary, the fountainhead of the Conservative Jewish movement, and the Detroit goal Beth Moses' Teen Beats Like Plan Event at 'Burnt Bagel' Espresso House Beth Moses Senior USY, will turn the synagogue into the "Burnt Soggy Bagel," a beatnik expresso house, 8 p.m., Feb. 1. CASH FOR ISRAEL BONDS 341-5477 was $100,000. A fine start was made at the dinner towards fulfilling the goal. Dr. Greenberg continued: "We are here to honor four worthy and outstanding rabbis. We are here to do something for a great cause. We are here because we are being pushed by the momentum of a 3,500- year tradition. We don't want to see it destroyed. We don't want to write the last chapter of a great history. That is why we see reenacted again and again in every Jewish community a great roster of activity. We live meaningfully as a people only when our soul is sensitized. We live as Jewish people only as long as we mature our souls and our minds. "We must recognize that the four men we are honoring rep- resent the one group that is in- dispensable to the Jewish people, for they represent a faith in the worthwhileness of Torah." The four senior Conserva- tive rabbis were compared by Dr. Greenberg to four proph- ets who lived in the same period — the prophets Hosea, Isaiah, Amos and Micah. The rabbis were presented scrolls for their meritorious service in the perpetuation of Juda- ism and for exemplifying the higher principles of rabbis and teachers. An award was presented to Station WWJ for carrying "The Eternal Light" program for 20 years. It was accepted by Den- man Jacobson, WWJ manager. Alfred L.
