Guttenberg-Roberts
Vows Exchanged

Trustees of the Robert S.
Marx trust gave the first in-
stallment of a $40,000 gift to
the Wayne State University Col-
lege of Medicine to finance a
new modern equipped surgical
lab.
Two of the four trustees,
Lawrence I. Levi and Howard
Kaichen, made the presentation
to Ernest Gardner, dean of the
college of medicine.
The presentation also was
attended by Dr. Harry Saltz-
stein, former chief of staff of
Sinai Hospital, who was per-
sonally responsible for bring-
ing to the attention of the
trustees the school's immedi-
ate need for such a lab.
Dr. Alan Thal, chairman of
the department of surgery of
the medical school, and Miss
Lois Levi, executive secretary
of the Marx trust, also were
present.
The new surgical lab, which
-will occupy the entire fourth
floor of the college of medicine,
will be known as the Robert S.
Marx Surgical Laboratory.
Marx, a former Detroit and
Cincinnatti attorney and a
personal friend of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt, receiv-
ed nationwide recognition in
1933 during the bank crisis.
He was a nationally known
trial lawyer, judge of the Supe-

rior Court of Cincinnati, World
War I hero, founder of the Dis-
abled American Veterans and
its first national commander.
Marx died at age 71 of a
heart attack, in 1960, at his
summer home in Charlevoix.
The trustees for the multi-
million-dollar trust have al-
ready made numerous contribu-
tions to religious, civic, cultural,
educational, charitable and re-
search projects.
The other two trustees of the
Robert S. Marx trust are Hugh
A. White of Detroit and Samuel
