Fr iday, January 10, 1964—THE DETROIT JEWISH NEW S- 12 Carnovsky to Perform at 'Year of 4 Rabbis to Be Honored Jan. 20 Dedication' Event Honoring Rabbis Morris Carnovsky, veteran actor, dramatic arts teacher and director at the "Actor's Lab" in Hollywood, will be the performing artist at the "Year of Dedication" dinner to be held at Shaarey Qdek, Monday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m., under auspices of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Carnovsky's versatile talents have taken him from the Henry Jewitt Players and the E. E. Clive Co. of Boston to the MORRIS CARNOVSKY Theater Guild and Martin Beck Theaters of Broadway as well as on the London stage at St. JaMes. He has appeared regularly with the American Shakespeare Festival Company of Stratford and last summer Carnovsky burnished his already gleaming reputation as an actor with a vivid portrayal of Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice." He was one of the mainstays of the Group Theater appearing in the "House of Connelly," "Men in White," "Johnny John- son," "Success Story," "Awake and Sing," "Rocket to the Moon," "Night Music," etc. Moviegoers have seen him in "Cyrano de Bergerac," "Our Vines Have Tender Grapes," "The Life of Emile Zola," "Saigon," "Dead Reckoning," "Tovarich," and "Rhapsody in Blue." Carnovsky, who was born in St. Louis, has performed in the Yiddish Theater in New York, and has been a favorite actor on the Jewish Theological Seminary's award winning program "The Eter- nal Light."
