TEL AVIV — Jean Rey, the
member of the commission of
the European Economic Com-
mission of the European Eco-
nomic Community in charge of
foreign affairs, said here Sun-
day night that Israel's negotia-
tions for some form of general
agreement with the Common
Market would come to an end
by the middle of next year.
Rey, who arrived here from
Brussels for week-long talks
with Israeli officias, said that,
"We have hed discussions for a
long period and it is time we
got down to business."

Extradition Pact
for Sweden, Israel
Has Bias Provision

JERUSALEM — The cabinet
has ratified an extradition
agreement between Israel and
Sweden which was signed in
Stockholm in September.
While the agreement follows
the pattern of similar pacts be-
tween Israel and other West
European countries, a new fea-
ture of the Swedish accord is a
stipulation that " a person is not
to be extradited if the requested
side has reason to believe he
would be brought to trial be-
cause of his race, creed or po-
litical conviction.

an appeal for members of class

for the April 25 event at the

Marlene Beatrice Moore,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abra-
ham Moore of Santa Rosa Dr.,
became the bride of Melvin Her-
man, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Herman of Gardner Ave., Oak
Park, in a ceremony performed
Dec. 21 by Rabbi Leo Y. Gold-
man and Cantor Hyman Adler
at Cong. Shaarey Shomayim.
The bride wore a floor-length
gown of silk taffeta, highlighted
with seed pearls inserted into
an appliqued bodice. A crown
of seed pearls held her illusion
veil and she carried white or-
chids and stephanotis on a
Bible.
Beverly May Moore served her
sister as maid of honor. Mrs.
Herbert Weberman, also a sis-
ter of the bride, was matron. of
honor. Sharon Herman, sister
of the bridegroom, was brides-
maid. Joni Weberman, a niece
of the bride, was junior brides-
maid.
Jerry Farber was best man.
Ushers were Sheldon Levine,
cousin of the bridegroom, and
Herbert Weberman, brother-in-
law of the bride.
The newlyweds departed for
a Miami Beach honeymoon.
They will reside on Stoepel
Ave.

Canada Jewry Asks
Legal Curbs Against
Racial Incitements

O T T A W A, (JTA) — The
Canadian Jewish Congress
urged the government to intro-
duce legal curbs that would
prevent racial h a t r e d with
incitement to violence.
The request was presented
during a meeting here between
a four-member CJC delegation
and Justice Minister Lionel
Chevrier and Postmaster Gen-
eral Azalus Denis. Citing the
recent spate of anti-Jewish
incitement in Toronto and cen-
tral Ontario during the past
few months, the delegation
called for changes in the
Criminal Code that would halt
the dissemination of hate
literature.

ship in Judaism today. A cul-
minating "Year of Dedication"
dinner, of which Deutsch is
chairman, will honor the Sem-
inary's senior alumni in Detroit
—Rabbis Morris Adler, Ben-
jamin Gorrelick, Moses Lehr-
man, and Jacob E. Segal — at
Shaarey Zedek, Jan. 20.
A native New Yorker, Dr.
Mandelbaum g r a d u a t e d with
honors from Columbia Univers-
ity in 1942, and while enrolled
in the Seminary's Rabbinical
S c h o o 1, received its Israel
Davidson Award in Medieval
Hebrew Literature and the
Lamport Award for outstand-
ing work in Homiletics. Fol-
lowing his ordination in 1946,
he served as Rabbinical School
Registrar, and from 1951-53
was the first rabbi of Bays-
water Jewish Center in Far
Rockaway, N. Y.
Prior to his appointment as
Provost, Dr. Mandelbaum serv-
ed as Dean of Students at the
Seminary's Rabbinical School.

Istanbul Jewish
Community Opens
Aged Home Facility

ISTANBUL, (JTA) — A new
Jewish Home for the Aged was
inaugurated here. Chief Rabbi
David Asseo presided over the
opening ceremonies. The two-
story building, located in Has-
koy, an old section of the city,
contains accommodations for 55
residents.
Thirty-five needy old people
were moved immediately into
the Home, which will be finan-
cially supported by the Jewish
community. Other charitable
institutions supported by the
locallocal community include a
hospital, an orphanage, a youth
camp, and two student aid
societies.

One out of 16 persons has
some form of arthritis. In Mich-
igan. there are an estimated
528,000 victims of the disease.
