Cane Appointed Coordinator of City Commercial Development Mayor Cavanagh on Monday appointed. Irving S. Cane. a member of the Detroit Housing Commission, as Coordinator of the Mayo r' s Committee for Industrial and Commercial Development. Cane will succeed Albert K. Jacoby, who resigned in No- vember. T h e salary is $17,- 442 a year. Cane was appointed to t h e Housing Commission last February by Mayor Cavanagh. His appointment becomes effec- tive January 13. Cane, 42, has been in the real estate business in Detroit for 10 years. He is a native of New York City, attended public schools there and later Rutgers University. With the Marines during World War II, he served on Guadalcanal and at ougainville and later with occupation troops in the Philipines and China. He has been active in vet- erans affairs as past com- mander, past national legisla- tive officer and at present national awards officer of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States. He is a member of the American Legion. He is a member of the board of directors of the National Shrine of the Jewish War Dead in Washington, and serves on the Jewish Community Council executive committee and its community relations commit- tee.
