Noted Performers Welichansky,
Benya in Yiddish Theater Revue

The world of Sholom Alei-
diem and Y. L. Peretz will come
to life on Jan. 12 at the Jewish
Center when Israel Welichan-
sky, character actor from the
English and Yiddish stage, and
Masha Benya, folk singer, will
be featured in a "Yiddish The-
atre Revue."
This cultural program,
brought to Detroit through the
combined efforts of all Yiddish-
speaking organizations, was or-
iginally scheduled as the final

and superb interpreter of Jew-
ish folk lore and of the con-
temporary Jewish scene.
Mrs. Morris Friedman is
chairman of the Hebrew-Yid-
dish Book Fair Committee.

band-Labor Zionist Organiza-
tion, Kvutza Ivrit,. Landsman-

Masha Benya Welichansky

event of the 12th Annual Jewish
Book Fair but was postponed
due to the late president's as-
sassination. Tickets sold for the
original date will be honored at
the door, according to Harry
Weinberg, ticket chairman.
Welichansky has been re-
ceived enthusiastically by audi-
ences from coast to coast. He
has been associated with the
Habima and Kedimah Studios
and played many leading roles
in the Yiddish Theater. He has
given many performances in
New York's Town Hall and
Carnegie Hall and has been ac-

Jack Keystone. Bridesmaids
were Mrs. David Sandler,

were Mrs. Donald Kay, cousin
of the bride, Mrs. Bruce Foote,
and Cynthia Schiff. The bride-
groom's niece, Julie Arbit, was
flower girl. Dr. S. Meyer Arbit,
the bridegroom's brother-in-law,
served as best man. Ushers were
Kenneth Holtzman, brother of
the bride, Dr. Paul Schneider,
and Dr. Gerald Benaderet. Fol-
lowing a honeymoon in Miami
Beach, Fla., the couple will
reside on Woodbine Rd. in
Detroit.
