Barcelona Hotel Wearing New Face Miami Beach's Barcelona Ho- tel, refurbished to the tune of $500,000, will display its "new look" to celebrate the New Year. Work has been completed on the striking new entrance facade utilizing subtle shades of ceramic tiling to blend with the Spanish - flavored color scheme of the re-decorated main lobby. The interior lobby also has been completely re-done, with the emphasis on cool sea tones highlighting a bubbling circular tropical fountain. All public and guest rooms have received individual treat- ment, with new carpeting, dra- peries and furniture designed expressly for the hotel. The ho- tel's elegrant Granada Dining Room was recently enlarged to twice its seating capacity and will again be presided over by executive chef Earnest Feist and Maitre de' Hotel Larry Oppen- heim. Milton Towbin, General Man- ager of the Barcelona Hotel, has announced that the resort's holiday and winter program will emphasize personalized service to each and every guest. In an addresss at the Chevra T'Hilim Synagogue, marking the congregation's 60th anniversary, Chevrier said the Jews represent "an astonishingly high percent- age of what is a relatively small community which has contrib- uted to Canada far more than its number would indicate." brochure and write Dept. _4-6. color BEACH HOTEL 4806 COLLINS AVE. SPECIAL RATES ON LONG STAYS HOTEL OCEAN at 42nd STREET•MIAMI BEACH Arab Anti-Jewish Venom Assailed in U.S. Senate BY MILTON FRIEDMAN (Copyright, 1963. Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Inc.) Many WASHINGTON. Americans, in the wake of the Kennedy assassination, have de- nounced extremism and bigotry. But the United States continues indirectly to subsidize the anti- Semitic and anti-Catholic propa- ganda of the United Arab Re- public press and radio. The Egyptian newspaper, "Al Abram," has condemned the forthcoming Israeli visit of Pope Paul. This government- controlled propaganda organ alleged that the Pope had "poli- tical motives" in the Near East and was too friendly to the Jews. The Cairo hate sheet went on to charge that the Pope was an agent of "international Zionism." Much of the newsprint for the Egyptian press is paid for by American loans and grants. American assistance also fin- anced construction of the radio transmitters which broadcast diatribes against Jews and Catholics. On Dec. 2, the Cairo "Voice of Arabs" broadcast that the American Jewish community was behind the assassination of President Kennedy. The broad- cast said "the savage Zionists and their companies killed him; they killed him for the sake of money. Dollars made the Dallas police conceal the facts." The newspaper "Al Ahram" said that "when this Jewish killer (Jack Ruby) goes on trial, Zionist elements will try to influence the jury." It com- mented: "Those who know our Jewish 'friends' well, know they don't get excited or involved unless personal or material in- terest E involved." National Commander Dan- — Drop Suit to Bar Cross from Court Building in Miami iel Neal Heller of the Jew- ish War Veterans brought the issue to the attention of the White House and urged im- plementation of a clause in the new Foreign Assistance Act authorizing the President to sever aid to the UAR be- cause of Nasser's aggressive military preparations and ag- gression. He said that not only did Nasser exploit U.S. aid to divert his own assets for purchase of aggressive Soviet arms, but aid sever- ance was also urgent because of Nasser's Nazi-like propa- ganda activities. Sen. Kenneth B. Keating, New York Republican, has call- ed for creation of a United Na- tions propaganda monitoring board "to control and condemn international hate propaganda." He cited Nasser as "the main offender in the exploitation of hate propaganda." He said that "spending by the under- developed nations on propa- ganda is just as inimical to the interests of peace as spending on actual weapons . . MIAMI, (JTA)—Two non-Jew- ish taxpayers indicated through their attorney . that they were dropping a suit to bar Dade county officials from erecting a cross on the County Court- house during the Christmas sea- son. Robert Kaufman, the attor- ney for the unnamed litigants said he did not "anticipate any litigation" at this time. He said his clients, whom he characterized as "Gentile non-believers," decided not to file suit after the announcement of intention to do so touched off a public storm. K a u f ma n, a Presbyterian, said that "ill-timing" may have confused the legal issues in- volved. He said that issue was stated in Section 6 of the Dec- laration of Rights in the Florida Constitution .Under that section, he said, if one sect has Tax funds placed at its disposal to erect a religious symbol, then every other sect, regardless of size, would be entitled to equal treatment. JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Sab- bath violence resumed in the Meah Shearim quarter for the first time in several weeks Saturday when zealot youths stoned two cars—one carrying officials of the Kol Yisrael radio network and the other carrying Israeli soldiers. While nine of the occupants of the cars were injured, the wind- shield of both vehicles were smashed. The culprits, described as be- tween 10 and 17 years of age, were not apprehended. Inhabi- tants of the ultra - religious quarter said that the youths came from elsewhere and were unknown to them. dangerous in the long run and more inducive to hostilities." Sen. Hugh Scott, Pennsyl- vania Republican, told the Sen- ate that "Egypt provides the most flagrant example of a country using propaganda as a major weapon against its neigh- bors," that "it is shocking that our money, which should be used to raise the living stand- ards of an impoverished people, doing little more than free- ing funds which Egypt uses to foment trouble and hatred. dail per Person dble.y occ.
