BEET KUGEL
1 1 /8 cups ground cooked beets
1 medium-small onion, ground
3 tablespoons chicken or goose fat
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 /16 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup matzo meal
3 eggs, beaten until light and thick
Drain the beets thoroughly before
putting them through the food
grinder. Use medium blade. Pack the
beets tightly into the cup to meas-
ure. Use the same blade to grind the
onion. Grease a 3 or 4 cup baking
dish with one teaspoon of the fat;
Add the rest to the beets, onion, salt,
pepper, matzo meal, and eggs. Mix
thoroughly. Pour the mixture into
the baking dish and bake at 325 degs.
F. for one hour, until firm and nicely
browned. This amount makes 4 gener-
ous or 5 average portions. Left-overs
may be sliced and reheated slowly in
a heavy frying pan with no added fat.

of Gary Wexler in a ceremony
performed Nov. 24 by Rabbi
Morris Adler at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek.
The couple are the children
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Rice
of Ardmore Ave., and Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel Wexler of Carol
Ave.
The bride wore a Bianchi
gown of silk mint peau de soie
fashioned with a batteau neck-
line and Alencon lace appli-
qued on the bodice and skirt
ending in a chapel train. A
crown of orange blossoms held
her fingertip veil of silk illus-
ion.
Attending the bride was her
sister, Mrs. Morris Bornstein
of Ann Arbor. Bernard Wex-
ler served his brother as best
man and ushers were Ronald
Barnett, Stanley Brown, David
Buckland and Jack Simon.
Following a honeymoon in
Nassau, the couple will reside
in Detroit.

4 cups finely chopped cabbage
1/4 cup chicken or goose fat
7 slices white bread
1 /2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown
sugar
1 /2 cup seedless raisins
1 tablespoons finely chopped citron
1 /4 cup ground, blanched almonds
1 /2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 /2 teaspoon salt
1/16 teaspoon ground allspice
Juice and rind of a lemon
4 eggs, well beaten
Cook the cabbage and fat over low
heat until the cabbage turns a light
brown. Cool. Soak the bread in a
little cold water until soft, then
squeeze dry. Combine all ingredients
and mix thoroughly. Pour into a well-
greased 1 1 /2 quart pudding dish and
bake uncovered at 325 dgs. F. from
1 1 /2 to 2 hours, until well-browned.
This amount serves 8.
19th Century Chemist

The annual Michigan Regional
Convention of the Bnai Brith
Youth Organization will begin
9:30 a.m. Monday at the Jewish
Center. The Detroit delegation
will comprise about 65 per cent
of the 500 teenagers attending
the four-and-a-half clay conven-
tion.
Following a welcome by con-
vention chairmen Debbie Men-
delson and Don Schon, greetings
will be extended by Barbara
Desow, Detroit Bnai Brith Girls
Council president; Robert Clin-
ton, Detroit Aleph Zedek Aleph
Council president; and Michael
Gellis, Great Lakes Council
president.
The delegates will hear a key-
note address by Emanuel Man-
del, director of the Michigan
Bnai Brith Youth Organization.
He will speak on "Individual
Development," the theme of the
convention. -
Basketball and volley ball
run-offs, as well as general con-
tests in sewing, knitting, chess
and checkers will be held dur-
ing the afternoon. Bowling will
be the highlight of activities on
Tuesday evening, and on Wed-
nesday evening there will be a
talent show at the Labor Zionist
Institute. Thursday afternoon
there will be an awards ban-
quet at the Bnai . Moshe syna-
gogue. All trophies and medals
won during the convention will
be awarded at this time.
Thursday e v e n i n g's "The
Sweetheart Dance" will culmi-
nate the convention activities.
The dance, to be held at Temple
Israel, will feature the selection
of the Bnai Brith Sweetheart for
the coming year. Each boys
chapter will sponsor a Bnai
Brith girl as its sweetheart. This
girl is selected on the basis of
her participation in Bnai Brith,
community activities, and her
poise and appearance. A panel
of judges, including Junior Miss
Michigan, will select the winner.
