United Hebrew Holds
Prep Class on Tanakh
for Bible Contest
A special class has been or-
ganiied at the United Hebrew
High School for the study of
the Tanakh in preparation for
the National Bible Contest spon-
sored by the Department of
Education and Culture, the
Jewish Agency and the World
Jewish Bible Society. The
finals are scheduled to be held
in New York City on May 3.
Twenty-three students are en-
rolled in this class. The study
is conducted from the original
text and the language of in-
struction is Hebrew. The com-
mentaries of Rashi and Radak
are interpretive aids to the
understanding of these classics
which include the Books of
Exodus, Samuel and selected
chapters from Isaiah and Eze-
kiel. Menachem Glaser is the
instructor and Albert Elazar is
the regional director of the
Bible contest. Sylvan J. Gins-
burgh, the principal of the high
school, announced that other
students in the community
whose Hebraic background is
equivalent to the knowledge of
the high school students may
apply to join the class.
