Refugees in France

GENEVA, (JTA)—A total of
$480,000 has been raised in 11.
European countries in order to
assist the French Jewish com-
munity to meet the problems
created by the influx of Jews
from North Africa, it was re-
ported by Dr. Astorre Mayer,
president of the Milan Jewish
community and chairman of the
Standing Conference of Euro-
pean J e wish Communities.
Mayer presided at the fourth
annual assembly of the Stand-
ing Conference.
Mayer told the assembly that
he regretted the absence of
representation from the Soviet
Union, center of the largest
Jewish community in Europe.

Now being ready for comple-
tion is the new face and modern
interiors of the New Yorker
Hotel, oceanfront Miami Beach
hotel in the Lincoln Road area,
announced Mrs. Frieda Cohen,
widow of the well-known and
internationally respected Harry
Cohen, who built the New York-
er and was chairman of the
Hotel Division of the Chamber
of Commerce in that city for
many years.
An entirely new facade in
bright tropical colors of pink and
white—and a complete redeco-
ration and refurnishing of the
accommodations a n d public

by the second week in Novem-

Argentina Sanctions
Rabbinical Seminary

BUENOS AIRES, (JTA) —
The new Argentine government
will give official recognition to
a rabbinical seminary recently
opened under Conservative aus-
pices in Buenos Aires, Charles
Rosengarten, of Waterbury,
Conn., chairman of the World
Council of Synagogues, told a
press conference here this
week.

Morgenstern Loan Fund to
Aid Hebrew Day Schools

The establishment by Morris
Morgenstern, New York finan-
cier and prominent philanthro-
pist, of a loan fund to aid in
the development and further
growth of Hebrew Day Schools
throughout the country, was an-
nounced by Samuel C. Feuer-
stein, president of Torah Ume-
sorah, National Society for He-
brew Day Schools.
