The SMITHSONIAN INSTI-
TUTION in Washington, D.C.,
has accepted a rare multi-star
sapphire from local jeweler Sid-
ney Krandall. The 24.7 carat
sapphire is approximately one-
and-a-half inches long and sky-
blue in color. It is the only
known gem star sapphire in
existence which has four indi-
vidual faces with a star in each
face.

THE FOUR FRESHMEN will
be featured in a special post-
game concert following the De-
troit Pistons-Boston Celtics bas-
ketball game to be played at
Cobo Arena on Nov. 24.

The premiere performance of
the MOSCOW CHAMBER OR-
CHESTRA will be the auspici-
ous first attraction for the Ma-
sonic Auditorium's well-known
Symphony Series. Tickets for
that concert, which will begin
at 8:20 p.m., Nov. 15, have now
been made available for public
sale at the Masonic Auditorium
box office and at Grinnell's
downtown. The Moscow Cham-
ber Orchestra was founded in
1955. The first public perform-
ance in Moscow in the spring of
1956 drew an immediate re-
sponse from the city's musical
public. Their first performances
in England at the Bath Festival
and in London last summer cre-
ated a sensation, and now it has
embarked on its first tour of
the United States and Canada.

Puccini's poignant "La Bo-
heme" has been selected as the
production for this year's De-
troit presentation by the NEW
YORK CITY OPERA, it was
announced by C. W. Van Lopik,
Masonic Auditorium general
manager. The curtain will rise
on the famed opera at 8:20 p.m.,
Nov. 22.

The NORMAN LUBOFF
CHOIR will make its Detroit
debut Saturday evening, when
they will appear in concert at
the Masonic Auditorium.

An array of outstanding
figures in all walks of American
life together with leaders from
Israel will be among the princi-
pal speakers at the annual
Metropolitan dinner of the Zion-
ist Organization of America,
Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the New
York Hilton Hotel, in honor of
the world Zionist leader, Dr.
Emanuel Neumann, on the oc-
casion of his 70th birthday, it
was announced by Jack Lef-
kowitz, dinner chairman.
Speakers will include David
E. Lilienthal, former head of
the TVA (Tennessee Valley Au-
thority), who cooperated with
Dr. Neumann in the Walter C.
Lowdermilk plan presented in
1948 for the establishment of a
Jordan Valley Authority (JVA)
for the economic development
of Palestine, benefitting both

Jews and Arabs. In that year,
Dr. Neumann served as chair-
man of the Commission of
Palestine Surveys which dealt
with this monumental project.
Other speakers will be Israel
Ambassador to the USA Avra-
ham Harman, Dr. Nahum Gold-
mann, president of the World
Zionist Organization, and Dr.
Max Nussbaum, president of the
ZOA.
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver of
Cleveland, with whom Dr. Neu-
mann was actively associated in
the efforts at the United Na-
tions which brought about the
Nov. 29, 1947, sanctioning the
adoption of the UN decision on

establishment of a Jewish State,
will be the toastmaster.
'Dr. Neumann, an honorary
president of the ZOA, now
serves as chairman of the
American Section of the Jewish
Agency. He is also president of
the World Union of General
Zionists.

Argentine Leader
Lauds Israel Exhibit

BUENOS AIRES, (JTA) —
Carlos Humberto Perette, Vice-
President of Argentina, declared
that "the magnificent work of
the people of Israel throughout
the long struggle for independ-
ence and consolidation can al-
ways count on the sympathy
and solidarity of our people.
During my mandate I will try
to strengthen the human bonds
uniting us and we shall defend
cultural values without discrim-
ination of any kind."
He made his statement in a
message to an exhibition entitled
"Fifteen Years of the State of
Israel," which was organized by
the Argentine Zionist Organiza-
tion.
