CHICAGO—The majority of professional anti-Semites in the United States are posing as "super-patriots" in an effort to gain acceptance in respectable circles, with their appeals di- rected mainly at "isolationists, proponents of radical right measures, pro-Arab apologists." Whereas up to 1960 "most of the anti-Semitic broadsides and periodicals flooding the South have been published at distant points and shipped into the re- gion in bulk for local distribu- tion," of late there has been a sharp rise in the amount of anti- Semitic literature put out in the South by local southern big- ots. These were two of the major findings of a year-long study by the American Jewish Committee into current anti-Semitic trends in the United States. The study, published in a pamphlet en- titled "Bigotry in Action," was made public here by A. M. Son- nabend of Boston, president of the Committee. It was announced in conjunc- tion with the opening on Thurs- day of the Committee's national executive board meeting, to be in session through Sunday, at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. The study points out that most professional bigots who hope to gain influence in the mainstream of American life are avoiding the "shock tactics" of George Lincoln Rockwell and his Amer- ican Nazi Party.
