Random Reissues Keystowe-Sandier
Ellison's Novel
Engagement Told

Random House has reissued,
as part of its Modern Library
s e r i e-s , "Invisible Man," by
Ralph Ellison.
It is one of the very famous
and impressive works on the
race issue. It first appeared in
1947, has been reissued in sev-
eral editions and is perhaps
more vital today than ever be-
fore.
"I am invisible simply be-
cause people refuse to see me,"
is the way the story commences,
and then comes a plot that is as
dramatic today as the issues
facing the Negro were two dec-
ades ago.
Even more applicable to the
present, when so much effort is
exerted to abandon the invis-
ibility and to bring the colored
issue to the front is the au-
thor's assertion: "Even hiberna-
tion' can be overdone . . . Per-
haps that's my greatest social
crime. I've overstayed by hiber-
nation, since there's a possi-
bility that even an invisible man
has a socially responsible role
to play."
Random announces that it
will soon publish Ellison's new,
as yet untitled second novel.

thur Sandler. The bride-elect is
