NEW YORK—Agreement on
transfer of ownership of the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency
from the Jewish Agency to the
membership of the JTA board
of directors was announced
jointly Wednesday by the JTA
and the Jewish Agency.
Eleazar Lipsky, president of
JTA, said the actual transfer
of ownership would be made
when the legal formalities
were completed. He said that
the members of the JTA board
had organized the American
Jewish News Foundation, Inc.,
a non-profit membership cor-
poration under the laws of the
State of New York, in which
ownership of JTA will be
vested. The trustees of the
foundation will be the JTA
board members.
He expressed the belief
that the new arrangement
would provide a wider basis
of communal support for JTA

Trial Continues

JERUSALEM—Technicalities
regarding identities of defend-
ants and formalities of the
charges against the defendants
have occupied prosecution and
defense for the past two days in
the trial of 104 Yeshiva students
on trial for the past two days
on charges of criminal trespass
in the Sept. 10 demonstrations
against Christian missions in
Israel.
The proceedings took on a
eomic aspect Tuesday when a
police witness testified he could
identify some of the defendants
whom he detained in the court-
yard of St. Joseph's Convent in
Jerusalem. When he was asked
to do so by Shmuel Tamir, the
defense attorney, the policeman
pointed to three persons in the
courtroom who turned out to be
three young Yeshiva spectators.
The mass trial is continuing
in a hospital dining room im-
provised for a court. All the
defendants have pleaded not
guilty.
Interior Minister and Religi-
ous Party leader Haim Shapiro
was reported today to have pro-
tested to Prime Minister Eshkol
concerning the Premier's con-
demnation of disturbances caus-
ed by religious zealots in Jerus-
alem. The Premier made the
criticism in his "state of the
union" address to the opening
winter session of the Parlia-
ment. Shapiro reportedly com-
plained to the Premier that he
had not clearly condemned the
anti-religious groups which last
week forced their way into an
Orthodox section of Jerusalem
and threatened violence.
